Anti-Social Behaviour Bill Ammendments....

Being an 'enforment officer' someone has plonked the ammendments for part 6 of this bill - 'firearms' on my desk.

Now i havent a clue how recent this addition is, as i struggled to find it on the Parliments website.

It basically says in short,

"In section 5 (weapons subject to general prohibition) insert...

any air rifle, air gun or air pistol which uses, or is adapted for use with, a self-contained gas cartridge system or (whether powered by air or carbon dioxide);

Has this effects us at all, or has anyone found the full ammendments online?

The issue is as regards "self-contained" cartridges is due to the convertability of certain types of airguns to fire conventional ammunition eg. converting a .22 airgun to fire live ammo

I certainly wouldn't think so as that is not the aim of the act. If it comes to it and any problems arose we would just have to campaign for an amendment making that clear

The UKPSF was instrumental in getting CO2 formally legalised as a propellant in the 1997 Firearms (Amendment) Act so we already have some practice in dealing with the Home Office

In any case Statutory Interpretation rules allow for an interpretation by the Mischief Rule which enables a judge to look at the reasoning behind an act (by reading the parliamentary records in Hansard) and interpreting the Statute that way. It is clear we are not the target for the new legislation so we should be insulated from the Act
