alright mate, i was going to give wdp a call 2moro but as im in i will email as well! i hav took the gun to see a wdp tech and he hasnt a clue.
i was on the chrono with my ir3. my angel air pressure was just over 3000 and my output was 599. i chrono in at 275 to 285.
fine i thought, so i got rid of the rest of my paint in my hopper with a quick bit of firing. i had a break and the bolt stayed open in the gun. air was leaking from the general area of the bolt (not the angel air). so i grabbed my allen key i turned my air off (lo-p) reading and continued to clean my gun from the break.
my air was now reading 795 tank pressure so i refilled to 2850 and went to adjust my output pressure to find that the threads on the adjuster had been sheared off.looking in the manual it looks like its part number AR004. this looks like it can be replaced and i should be able to get to wdp for next saturday but can you tell me why this has happened? the air is only 2 monthes old, has only been used with my ir3 which is showing 16003 cycles half of which have probably been done with the air off, pretending to shoot the cat! any feed back u can give me would be great!

Maybe it was the sudden rush of air coming out because the paintshell caused the bolt to stay forward....are you saying its the adjuster that is sheared?

its the brass section that you screw the grub screw into. the probablem is, no gas came out of the air. as that part is only a regulater i cant see y it should have happened?!???!?!? lost!

it couldnt have happened b4 the bolt stick cus.......................there are no threads left on the adjuster which means that without threads there could be no output pressure, and no out put pressure means no firing or bolt stick. phoned wdp 2day and they said frazer will be back for wed or thur. ive ordered the part and i can fix it (he hopes) but still dont know y it happened!

From what you've described I think you had 2 faults in a row: the first was a simple breech break, which caused the bolt/hammer to stick forward, hence the leak down the barrel. It occasionally happens with Angels when you get a bit of shell or a lot of paint under the bolt, causing enough friction that the ram can't drag the bolt/hammer back.

I suspect that your haste to turn the AIR off caused the second fault ie. the stripped threads on the AIR output adjuster. WDP found that the brass 'tophat' on the new 'dome' style AIRs have a tendancy to strip/wear very, very easily and have now switched to a steel version - it's harder to adjust your AIR with the newer part, but at least the threads don't strip.

The 'tophat' is an easy part to fit, you could do it yourself, although I'd recommend getting your techie mate to do it, it's covered by warranty then on the tiny chance something goes wrong! :)

EDIT: Just another quick thought, Jammy. If the bolt stick ever happens again, just jam a straight shot down the barrel & push the bolt back - don't worry about crushing a ball, you've already got a breech burst, right? ;) If you don't have a SS, remove the barrel and try using a finger. It's something you can do mid-game, unlike switching your AIR off. Clean your breech up and you're back playing again.

thanks sinner. thats the best reason that any1 has come up with yet! ive bought a replacement brass one but u say u can now get a steel one? i will have to get a spare! are the brass ones really that delicate then and is this a common problem?

thanks

I'm slightly confused now, you say your AIR is effectively brand new (2 months old), but from your reference to part AR004 you've apparently got the older 'flat face' model. I was basing my original answer on the assumption that you had a newer 'dome' model, which does have an issue with part AR067, the brass 'tophat' I refered to, hence its replacement by a steel version.

I must admit I've never heard of the threads being stripped on the older model, but since the threading on the adjustment screw is the same then the principle still holds as to how it could have happened. As far as I'm aware their isn't a steel version of part AR004, so the replacement you've got should be fine.

As a note, if your AIR was brand new then you shouldn't have had to pay for the replacement part, it should have been a free warranty repair.

right, i didnt buy it brand new i got it cheap second hand. the ir3 that came with it only had just over 2000 cycles on the display and the air was in perfect nick so i was goin on the assumption that it was a new angel air mate, but of course it cud have been an old air. im new to angels and angel air (just incase u cant tell!) but i love my ir3 to bits! its just such a pain in the arse! last sunday i had to use my old gun, my impulse. now after playin with an ir3 for a couple of months my ruddy impulse felt like a bloody tippman! hopefully i should be able to sort the problem out 2day as im in the mm on sunday but if not its back to the imp!
