Angel Speed ball detents

As anyone tried to change the ball detents on their speed yet?

Coz i have and god are they in tight!!

Only problem is the ball detents are made of some really soft metal so the flat bladed screw driver thats meant to fit... don't now...

So how do i get them out?????

go out and buy yourself an ice lolly that has a wooden stick. hey pretso.....alternatively find the widest blade of screw driver you can.....

tried everything to get it out... but while doing so it stripped the grove that you sit the blade of the screw driver in... so it made it harder... so the screw driver would not sit on the detent... coz it is really soft metal..

Got the balldetent off after sawing a new grove in the detent...

ONLY to find WDP have made the ball detents smaller than the ones on the LCD/IR3 etc... and they are a different design..

So now i have reuined the ball detent on my nice new angel (less than 6Hrs old)....

Can i get replacements????

For anyone else thinking about doing this, if the ball detent is loclighted in (nearly everyhting seems to be on the angel speed :/ ) then put some hot water on it and it will be easyer to get off.

The tool to use is a simple penny.

At some point WDP will be supplying fibre-glass pennies with the Speeds, so as to avoid all risk of marring the anodizing. In the meantime, I just put some masking tape on the coin I use.

I did the EXACT same thing to the right ball detent on my Speed Demon. Except I was never able to get it out. Anways, hopefully warped will take it out and kick me down with a free one. However, a permanent black magic marker will help hide the nasty scratches on the detent.

The new Speed detents are diff. from previous models? That sucks. WDP has had the same detent threads since the LED, why the hell would they change them? I wonder if the 4 will be the same way.

Anyhow, if it comes right down to it, you can always use Vise Grips to get them off. I got the detent stuck on my IR3, stripped the hole the allen key goes into (long story), and the only way to get it off was by means of Vise Grips. It totally destroyed the detent, but it got it off. Now I have a three piece System X that's about 200 times better anyway, so I guess it was all for the best. But if you absolutely HAVE to get them off, and you're willing to shell out a few bucks for a new one, that works.

Dr, they changed for an obvious reason: they improved the design. And the Angel 4 shares the same detent design as the Speed.
