Just some advice.....

I have been trying to charge my Angel LCD, leave it for a few hours and 'fault' comes up on the LCD. It just would not take a charge. I got a new battery as someone here suggested but am now having the same problem.

Any ideas?

Could it be the board?

Any help would be appreciated.

Depends on the fault, but as you have already swapped the battery even if the battery fault is showing it isn't that so that points to the board.
Fault codes are

TAB IN = Battery disconnected or Tab Key inserted when trying to charge

CODE 1 = Faulty battery (NOTE CODE) can occur during the first 3 charges when new or replacement battery is fitted

CODE 2 = Hopper using too much power (sticky motor)

CODE 3 = Over temperature (ambient temperature too high)

CODE 4 = Under temperature (ambient temperature too low)

Are you using a wall unit in conjunction with the Angel charger very often the units used (wall) are not up to the job as they don't give the correct voltages...these same units are also very likely to go faulty and let too much much voltage through...just so you know.
If you switch the Angel off and then back on you lose the fault code but it will come back next time you try charging..in general anything other than the hooper code (easy fix) they are lead to a board replacement...unless the battery fault is as above and 3 (or 4) times of charging sees it dissapear.

Thanks Mark,

yeah, I am using a wall charger, charged the battery 'bout 8 times now try to clear the fault but I don't remember seeing any code. I'll try it in the car, see if that makes a difference.

Also, how long should the battery hold its charge when not in use?

Cheers

It can be days it can be hours there isn't a cut and dried answer to that question.
Charging in the car is a better option, remember that often (car dependant) that you need to have the car running...people who charge their Angels on the way to a tourny etc don't realise this as of course the car is running.
Which wall charger unit are you using. A full sized cb style thing or a little cell phone charger sized...the second is what you don't want to have...they are cheap but cheap doesn't fly when you can have problems

Just to help a little further

these are good
http://www.maplin.co.uk/media/largeimages/231i0.jpg £29.99
http://www.maplin.co.uk/media/largeimages/30388i0.jpg £24.99

these are bad, believe me on this just as lots of people are ok with these doesn't mean you won't be the one to have problems..as it is normally the way things happen ;)

http://www.maplin.co.uk/media/largeimages/12205i0.jpg £14.99
http://www.maplin.co.uk/media/largeimages/36397i0.jpg £5.99 These are the ones that are especially likely to screw up...Cobra used to sell this item, badged as theirs and now they sell a version on the PALSTAR rebadged for themselves...why do you think this is ;)

I could have used another suppliers but since Maplin is all over the UK it was reasonably simple to use their products as examples but the specs of these units is the same as other makers so you have to know which sort you should be looking at.
Once again a subject that to have had the pictures being enabled in the forum section would be way more helpful than posting links
