thought this may be the appropriate place to put this:

does anyone know which to go for? i hear that the LCD doesnt have anti-chop but the IR3 does. therefore would it be best to go for an IR3???

thx for any help :D

Most people will say the anti chop in the Ir3 doesnt work too well. That is because it takes a bit of fine tuning to get it to work. When I still had the normal board in my Ir3 I removed the cops (anti chop) rod and used a halo, it never broke paint.

The Ir3 also has the space frame, which some people find more comfortable. Others, like me prefer the normal 45 frame.

Also the Ir3 is compatible with alot more of the newer generation parts, so you can tune the setup a bit to increase efficiency or let you shoot more brittle paint. But this upgrade path can be costly.

I have a Fly iR3...

Basically my attitude is if I can feed it fast enough, it doesn't chop (anyone who watched my painfully humiliating experience guesting for Unknown Angels yesterday might well question that, but I assure you it's generally true ;)). I've never bothered turning COPS on since I bought an Eggy, and I still firmly believe you REALLY have to be going some to outshoot them (drop tested mine at 18.5 balls a second, and don't like the look of Halo's - know that sounds silly but there it is...)

Remember though, that there is a difference between COPS 1 & 2, and most people say that COPS 2 was a large imrpovement - haven't tried it myself - my board is on MEM4 software, and though originally I thought about having the software upgraded, I now have to say I'm really not going to bother. The iR3 does not chop if you feed it fast enough the vast majority of the time. Some one like Tom Allen will have much more experience and facts and figures on the merits/dismerits of COPS 1 vs 2... (and he may well correct me on my last statement ;))

However...

In yesterday's SWPL leg 7, my reg was so gunked I couldn't chrono above 150 and after an amusing game of trying to shoot in the air and land paintballs on oppositions heads, I decided to go find an alternative.

Bluey (Blitz, god love him and all who sail in him) lent me his backup LCD, no COPS, as you say, X board revvy, plenty fast enough and did not chop...

At the end of the day, Pureball, the only answer is to try both - and if poss in a game, not just at the chrono range, and see what speaks to your hands. Let's say, for argument, LCD=200 squiddles and iR3=300. Is COPS worth 100 given that I don't use it? No of course not, but I'm 110% happy with my iR3 - the Fly version looks the dogs kahunas. I liked mine so much I bought my girlfriend one.

Don't be swayed by the infra-red stuff - mostly nonsense that no one uses. But equally remember that both guns can be plenty fast - and a lot of people can testify that suicide's LCD is quick. At the end of the day, ya pays ya money, etc, etc...

I'm down at Crealy quite often - if you ever want to shoot the iR3, give me a shout...

PS - great sig John :)
