All,

The other day my charger melted, the plug that connects to the marker wasn't well made and one ot the strands of wire had shorted out.

I re housed the charger PCB in another case from Maplin, voltage out is ok.

I connect the charger to the marker with power switch off, it should say "pwron" and not charge. Well it did do.... Now it briefly flashes "pwron" and then charges. With power switch on it works normally and charges.

So I took the board out and repeated the above. it works as described in the manual except if I lightly touch the LCD.

With the grips on if i push them the screen or backlight goes on and off .

My question does the LCD screen effect the charging or is the board broken, everything works fine except this.

Other than that the marker seems to work ok.

I suspect the LCD screen, anyone got a spare?

Resetting the board may cure this problem, to do this, locate the two internal buttons on the bottom of the board, put the board in safe mode and press the two buttons together for 2 seconds. The display will go blank and restart, and hopefully the problem will be cured.

This may also be caused by a broken wire to the power switch, switching the board off and on, when your charging.

I doubt the display would cause the charging problem, it's more likely there may be a dry joint on the board, and moving the display causes this fault.

Ahhh Good point, pobably on the charger input or power input

And the board is sealed :(

So I guess a new board.... Unless you can get it repaired?

and will ecplain why when it is not in the frame it is ok...
ie no stress from mounting screws - I will try with the top screw undone and see what happens.

Kivas,

Just some ideas, sorry if you have covered this already:

Firstly the power switch is meant to be on when charging, otherwise the battery is isolated from the board.

The power switches are notorous for bad solder connections, to rule that out as a problem try fiddling with the wires on the power switch to see if it turns the board off.

Remember the input to your angel charger needs to provide an amp or so.

Using a lower power AC adapter will cause problems especially when charging an empty battery.

By the way, if you want Angel boards and chargers (decent ones), gimme a shout.

Hi John,

Thanks I will look into that also.

I sent you a email BTW bit more detail.

I am using a 5amp supply :)

If the Spitfire upgrade is resonable I will probably go that way anyways.
