I was just wondering what the angel heirarchy was?

Ie, lowest end "worst" angels to highest end "best" Angels.

I ask cos there are so many diff types of angels out there its hard to know whats what!

Cheers guys

If progression is the benchmark then the worst are the first and the best the latest.

Every model of Angel is a step forward..though in some cases the "improvement" isn't always to everyones liking.....
With retro fit systems of varying types around you can have an LED that will perform equally as good as the latest expensive Angel...expensive is what Angels always have been so as a new model arrives this gets more painful for the person who just has to have the very latest...Euro Speed----Speed 05 is a very good example. But if any of the hype is to be believed then the Speed 05 is a totally different animal and it some areas it is. Interesting to see WDP returning to a unique minireg after losing out on Angel sales in the early days with LED's being unable to take other makes of inline reg.....I would guess that this is something to do with the entire package and the lawsuits flying about as a combined unit could be described as part of the whole. The new grip frame has more than a slight look of a Timmy now...very strange as WDP were the pioneer of the different angled grip frame, not including AGD with the Z grip as that was an idea that happened to get made but in limited numbers.
Back to the question if budget isn't an issue then buy the newest if it is something of a problem then look to an LCD (or LED) and then fit a retro eye kit.

In general chronological order

LED: Basic 1st model angel, nothing particularly special....turn it on and it went bang when you pulled the trigger. A few custom models were made including an Eclipse one.

LCD: Same sort of thing as the LED but this time with a screen in the grip and a few minor mechanical alterations. Came in three 'official' models, standard was in silver and black, C&C (coloured & carved) which was more milled, came in pretty colours and featured an intelifeed socket as standard. Also there was the 'fly' model, which was milled heavily to make it as light as possible. WDP revised the LCD on a yearly basis, with changes to the milling, colours and also the removable of the dumb 'power tab' on/off. Many custom houses also made versions such as the Cobra Angel and Warped Sportz's Dark, Element, and Rocky Angels. Aside from pretty milling and funky anodising the custom versions offed no real performance benefits to the base model

IR3: Changed grip frame to 90 degree 'space' frame with cutlass style hand guard. Featured the 'COPS' ball detection system, gated feed port and enclosed circuit board (no mess of wires as before). Again, came in standard and C&C models with a milled down and funky looking Fly model that had the maligned hand guard removed. Custom models by the same companies as before such as the Warped LaSoya Class offered prettier milling.

LCD03: A reduced price angel to get rid of some spare parts WDP had knocking around. A new LCD revision with a 45 degree 'chain' trigger frame, gated feed and some rather natty milling.

Speed: Fairly major revision to the Angel internals for the first time. Retaining the IR3s 90 degree frame (but not the hand guard) it no longer featured a LCD in the side of the grip but a LED based display and simplified set-up. Also featured a revised 'intelligent' COPS system that was renamed 'sensi' to try and distance itself from the bad press that the IR3s ball detection system had gained from muppets not knowing how to set it up. Also the battery stack was reduced and the LPR moved around which allowed the useful addition of volumisers to lower the operating pressure of the gun, to resolve previous criticisms of the Angel being rough on paint and keep up with the new LP markers like the Matrix. A few custom houses made their own version of the Speed, such as Warped's 'Speed Demon'.

A4: Basically the same internal platform as the speed but with return of the LCD screen and IR functionality. Also featured a gauge on the mini reg mount/flash tank, a twist lock gated feed neck, also came packaged with 3 different sized volumisers. Made available in many pretty colours although I'm not aware of any specific custom models?

Fly (aka A4 Fly): Similar to the A4 but with the removal of the gauge, a low rise (non gated) twist-lock feed neck and the replacement of the sensi with a new super reliable and idiot proof break-beam eye system. Milling is fairly simple but comes in many (many) different anodising options from WDP. A few official custom versions have been produced such as the Joy Division which has different milling and colouring.

Euro Angel: Essentially the same as the original speed but (LED board) with the new eye system replacing the sensi. Simple milling, only offically available in europe and a few colour options.

Speed 05: Big changes are afoot. As far as I am aware the internal layout remains the same as models since the original Speed but the big change is in the circuit board. The rechargeable battery that used to be housed in the left 'tube' of the body has now been removed, power is now drawn from a 9v held inside the grip frame. Once again, out with the LCD and in with a LED based display mechanism but this time with the lights on the back of the grip and not the left panel. Two grip options are available to the customer, a 90 degree space frame as before as well as a standard shaped 45 degree. Both frame options feature custom flat panel Angel grips and the new magnetic trigger on bearings for a nice smooth pull. Also the front reg/grip has been redesigned to be more ergonomic and house a smaller and slightly tweaked compact mini regulator. The new speed features the eye system from the fly and has the same low-rise gripping feed neck. Milling is very simple and colouring is very basic with the frame and front grip not colour matched to the rest of the gun

Phew.....i think that's mostly correct, might have missed a few bits.

I just want to point out a couple things you missed.

LCD had some pretty radical changes from the LED, longer bolt, lower pressure, redesigned solenoid, ligher, shorter, smaller body, LCD screen, and a much faster board.

IR3: Changed grip frame to 90 degree 'space' frame with cutlass style hand guard. Featured the 'COPS' ball detection system, gated feed port and enclosed circuit board (no mess of wires as before)
The enclosed circuit board was mostly to prevent cheating and unofficial board re-programming, there's no fewer wires, the board is just encased in a plastic shell. You also forgot the newer, smaller, lower pressure solenoid and shorter, lighter ram and body.

LCD03: A reduced price angel to get rid of some spare parts WDP had knocking around.
You're basically right on that, but in all fairness, it did feature the new IR3 solenoid.

Speed: Fairly major revision to the Angel internals for the first time. Retaining the IR3s 90 degree frame (but not the hand guard) it no longer featured a LCD in the side of the grip but a LED based display and simplified set-up. Yep, pretty much. The speed did offer some pretty big changes in internals, but it wasn't the first "major" revision to the Angel, every version has offered quite a bit of advantage over the other (the smallest change occuring between the LCD and IR3).

A4: Basically the same internal platform as the speed but with return of the LCD screen and IR functionality.
New LPR, faster board, new solenoid, lower pressure than the Speed engine, shorter, lighter body, redesigned grip frame, vernier wheels, and redesigned bolt were also added features.

Speed 05: Big changes are afoot.
Not so much, it's not much of a radical change from the earlier Speeds/A4/Fly's, but a cheaper and simpler alternative than the Fly.

That's about it, everything else is pretty much right on.

sorry, but i know someone with the angel speed 05, its great i agree, but not that all impresive, the angels are getting a bit boring now, i keep seeing the same thing, i have an LCD, ive seen them or shot quite a few mof them, but to be honest, they're all basically the same when you get from the regular speed upwards!

The step from the A4 to the fly was impressive, But you must remember the angel in it's present shape has come to a peak. The next step will be radical.

When you go up from your lcd to the eyed angels, you will feel a massive change in performance It's no good just having a blast on a new angel, you need to have it for a couple of weeks to appreciate it's quality.

And remember Luke, you do have a good example of an LCD.
