OK so here it is.

It is looking like woodland tournaments are starting to make a bit of a come back, I know that there appears to be a large number of players who would like to see this side of paintball start up again. I personally played two 5 man woodsball days recently and had a great time, and everyone I have spoken to seems to want more of these days. Holmbush are running 3 more this year and Wayne at Dorking is also thinking of running more.

So what is the appeal? Well I would like to see anyone running these days to try and provide good quality paint for a reasonable price. This is for two reasons.
It would be a shame if this revitalization of the woodland scene was to immediately descend in to a money making exercise for organizers, I feel this would kill of any chance of this taking off. Now I know that all sites run as a profit making business and I would not expect anyone to run a day at a loss but we all know that cost price paint is around 1.5p to 2p a ball all I ask is that we be a little more focused on getting woodland play back in to a health state in this country.
Secondly if we are all shooting good paint it will make the play a bit more fair and interesting and take away any advantage the rich buggers who can buy box after box of the best paint, so levelling the playing field and giving the new guys a bit of a sporting chance.

So come on all you site owners lets work on getting woodsball back to a health state in this country.

I understand what you're saying but what exactly do you want, Marbelizer @ £20 a box...?

Regarding paint, are you talking about punter sites?

Sorry, i wasnt very clear i guess.

I'm talking about up and coming woodsball tournaments only, not punters and not normal free for all walk on days.

As for cost, why not Marbelizer @ £20 a box )… no, all I’m saying is that it is not punter paint or normal walk on paint. I don’t see a problem with a good grade paint for £20 to £25 a box there is still some profit in that for the resellers.

paint is probably going to cost even more to produce soon with the general cost of materials going up, you have to allow for the overheads of the companys involved and they need to make something.good paint from the dealers at £25 - £30 a box is good value,it was not that many years ago we were paying £90 + a box at tourneys.

well more full u :p

U can get most paint for about £25 if u pay more then thats up to u if u want thses prices u have to earn them, do remeber its not how much paint u shoot its how good your aim is....

I do agree with Box about many sites chargeing too much for paint so thats why all sites that do these type of games should allow BYO, any sites that does not allow BYO is just overchargeing people and will kill the game so they lose in the end.

And who pays the site owner for the marshalls, rent of the land, provision of facilities, etc.
Not every site can do this, they are there to run a business and make a profit. They only thing they sell is paint so there has to be a profit margin.

Notice that you have not said anything about a walk on ot tournament fee either, so basically you want to roam about their land for your own enjoyment for next to nothing

Have to agree here, I sell paint at £30 a box and if I sold it at any less i'd be loosing out.

What people think is people just turn up to these events and play, they never see the time taken to organize them. If you want your paint cheaper then I think you'll see the rise of woodsball suddenly drop. A site owner is going to make more profit of 20 site punters than he will 60 woodsball players. So if it is not worth opening a site 95 percent like they do now won't run an event. I made a big loss of every Ionman event last year, but un like many site owners I set them up to give something back. I do not expect to make money from this years events. But unless you have been to an Ionman event you will not see this fact. But even though I make nothing and people get a lot back when they play I still spend a hell of a lot of time promoting it. So unless your stupid like me, then your going to run an event to pay the mortgage and not loose money.

When I play an event like the Masters I pay my £40 and buy my paint happily. I will also happily go to like the UKPSF big game and pay my fees and buy my paint happily at the costs it is. Because I know the costs and stress involved in these events and it is a bargain for the time and energy they put into them.

So please keep paint at the same levels it is now and continue watching it rise not fade away as not worth the effort.

Good good.. i think this is a worth while debate and people are making some good points, though i notice that people tend to jump on the price issue. Well if you read carefully i am suggesting that organizers make sure that it is GOOD quality paint primarily and to perhaps shave a little off the profit margin, but not to run at a loss.

I do not expect anyone to wave the entrance fee and i have not said that.

You can get a good premium paint for £37 full retail and those who have been around for while and have had dealings with running sites or teams will know what the cost price is approx per ball. i don’t think you would be far wrong in taking a stab at 50% minimum profit per box, I'll let everyone do their own sums.
Now if this is wrong then i would be more than happy to look at anyone’s accounts :D

See now you have me at this price thing!!! No, all i am saying is please lets not get into selling punter paint or little better at these tornies. i don mind paying £30-40 a box BUT i want it to be good paint.. that’s all.
Its only that both 5 mans i have played there have been many complaints about the paint and at one i paid £40 for a box of Proto that looked more like golf balls in was so dimpled and came in just about every bore size you could want in one box ... nice. I have shot better punter paint.
