Why do the Am A teams and Am B teams not play each other in the Millennium events? Wouldnt that be the bench mark for whether you were in the correct catagory? i.e if you were an Am B team consistently beating the Am A teams maybe you shouled move up, and vice versa for the Am A team moving down?

Sam,
Am B and Am A don't play because it is too hard to schedule.
Each division plays 2 others.
I agree that it's lame.
I think you should play two games out side your division, one up, and one down.
I believe this system is under review for next year.

would make sense to play:

Pro to play: One Am A and the rest Pro
Am A teams to play: One Pro, One Am B and the rest Am A
Am B teams to play: One Am A, One NOv, and the rest Am B
Nov teams to play: One Am B and the rest Nov

But then i guess you would have problems at the smaller events where there are too few Pro's and Nov teams making it so insular. What is the solution then?

I think we need to have Pro v Pro games only.

Am teams get their asses handed to them when they play pro (generally speaking), it does the pros no favors whatsoever in playing the am teams and maybe the ams do like getting their asses spanked against pro teams and if that's the case then I'm afraid that has to be a casualty for the greater good or rather more common sense line.

Whether that same exclusivity of play is cascaded thru the other categories is for those teams to decide I think perhaps this is a good first starter problem for the EPA to get their teeth into.....
Go Pipes, Go Goose and Go Mimi :)

It would seem as tho the Millennium Board have taken a wholly more professional and receptive line of late and I think they will keep it up after having some lengthy discussions with Niall over the weekend and all credit to them, if in the end it's the teams and players who ultimately benefit after having their say.

I agree with you there, and i think if that were to happen then it would increase the skills of the Euro pro's as they would get a greater number of tougher games at each event. i dont really think that playing one pro team for the Am A and B teams does them any good at all, and in many cases is grossly unfair, as some teams had Ironmen and others had to play Baltica!

Its not as if at footy tournaments you can show up and enter as a pub side and then get the chance to play Manchester United or real madrid, if we want to be seen as a serious mainstream sport, why should it be different in paintball?

It is a hard problem to rectify, and will leave a great deal of people disappointed.

but if you want to play the pros, move up and be a pro. Teams get nothing out of it being spanked by a pro team and the pro teams get nothing out of it either! Those people who say they learn a lot from playing a pro team are taking rubbish, what could you possibly learn from being zoned on the break and losing 3 players, then losing the game inside a minute?

Sam:)

Oh and Robbo......the enemy? ;) ;)

Mother, is that you?
Hold on a sec though.

1) Ok, granted, there's no 'technical/training benefit' from being rubbed out by pros in ten seconds. But there is when you view the event as a whole. What actually happens on the field is less important than the flavour of the tournament. B'sides, if I want to play a bunch of ams and novs, I can save myself a fortune and go to the M25 series.

2) Course it happens in football. It's called the FA Cup.

3) The pros contribute the least to the coffers, why should they be calling the shots. If anything, the non pros should decide the future of the series - cos let's face it, it'll be an am event in three years time. (If it exists at all.)

But, more than anything, is this outrageous belief that what is good for the pros is good for paintball.

1. Generally speaking if you go to a millenium event you be playing the better Am's, Nov's etc as apposed to the local tournies.
2. Pub teams don't compete in the FA cup though do they?
3. The Pro's pay the most entry fee don't they?

Huh? I go to the Millennium Series as an Am A player not to get a chance to play against the Pros, but to do as well as we can as a team in the event and the series. Nothing more, nothing less. i dont think the flavour of the tournament is bettered by a few Am B vs Pro games at all. The flavour of the tournament would be increased if there were more pro vs pro games. Thats why there were so many people following the teams round to watch Effect Avalanche, Effect Shockwave, Dynasty Tigers, Ironmen Dynasty, Strange Nexus, Nexus Tigers...wannt me to continue? The event would have been so much better and entertaining if there had been more train crash games involving the likes of BC, Avalanche, Strange, Nexus, Legion, Shockwave, Tigers, Ironmen, Dynast...y, Ton Tons, Effect..etc....Thats where the flavour is! Not watching Effect against team Z, or Dynasty vs Team Y
