Attempted answer to Baca Loco pertaining to Static
Explain to me how Static hang the flag in all 3 finals games and lose the tourney. There must be some controversy there.
I happened to be watching the game between Static and Addicted on the JT field.
At one point, there were 3 Static players and 2 Addicted players left in the game. One of the Static players and one of the Addicted players were on the opposite tape from where I was viewing the game, so (due to the huge JT Aztec temple in the middle) I could not see exactly how it went down, but here's the best I can do:
The Static player started to advance on the Addicted player on the far tape...the Addicted player walked out, and the Static player continued on down the field...BUT, apparently the two exchanged paint without the ref's knowledge. That same Static player came around the temple bunker and shot the last Addicted player, and continued on to pull the flag. As he made his way toward his flag station for the hang, a ref noticed a hit on the player and eliminated him. At that point, another Static player grabbed the flag and proceeded to hang it.
After much arguing from Addicted, Bill Cookston was called over to make the final call.
His ruling, as best as I could tell, was that the Static player received a one for one for playing on, as well as another one for one for pulling the flag with a hit already on him...(or, it may have been that he received a two for one for playing on in a game changing penalty, as he eliminated the last Addicted player). Static still received first pull points because the flag pull occurred prior to the player being called out by the judge. The hang then went in Addicted's favor because all of Static's players were eliminated in the penalty...which results in an automatic hang.
