And why the hell do all the paintball shops sell 638, which isn't even on the list (in fact, it's not technically threadlock, it's a high-strength retainer)?

I generally use 222 , 641 & 638 - low, medium and high strength respectively in comparison with each other.

The 638 is for something you absolutely 100% know that you're never, ever going to want to remove and that you don't want shifting. Actually, you can remove something glued with this, but it's a real biatch to do and on the wrong piece of kit can result in scratches, etc if yoiu attempt to do so. I've always prefered to use this for connecting an elbow connector to an air system and on/off taps to the elbow. 638 is very good to use because it can deal with quite a large bond gap, allowing you to seal leaks that can't be handled by lesser adhesives.

The 222 is for everyday usage eg. putting a dab on screws to stop them shufting due to vibration, etc which is a great way to stop your drop forward coming loose on the bottom of your grip frame.

I found that I rarely use the 641, generally just for jobs that were a bit too much for the 222 due to the strength or a large bond gap, but where I didn't want the full-monty 638. You can substitue 542 hydraulic sealant for the 641, but I prefer 641.

I just realized that I'm an adhesives geek.
