at 15 he probably won't be happy unless he gets the 16" barrel, but it probably won't make a bit of difference. Your best bet is to get a barrel kit that has a few different bores to fit the different paint sizes, which will make a difference.

There's not a lot of difference between the barrel kits, but there are carbon fibre kits which are extremely light. If only for this reason they're the kits i would go with. You try the paint by blowing a few balls through the different sized barrel backs until it feels tight then go back one size.

i've got a pimped out SLG UL, i opted to go with a 14" DYE 2 piece UL barrel. Mine's of the carbon fibre boomstick variant which is pricey but i dont regret it in the slightest. Heck, even the standard UL barrel backs are fantastic.

Anything longer than 14" on a SLG UL looks stupid and won't see a significant performance gain.

An invert nightstick is also a pretty good investment.

Other than that, a barrel kit is a good alternative. A good ball to bore fit will ensure a tight spread on target.

Common myths about barrels:

Longer is more accurate.
Longer gives more range.
Expensive barrels are more accurate.

There are few barrrels that shoot badly. Even stock ones.

The ONLY good reason to buy a new barrel is to get a different bore size than you currently have. Length should be whatever feels most comfortable from a weight / manouverability point of view. 12, 14 or 16" would cover all eventualities. Do not go longer - you raise your risk of barrel breaks for no advantage and reduce your efficiency.

Assuming you have a stock 0.691, get a 0.685 / 0.687 bore of whatever you like the look of.
