You do have to break it in if you want to lower the ram pressure. AKA recommends about 5000 cycles before reducing the pressure. I don't know why.

the viking does not require a break in period, but in order to reduce the cocking pressure from the factory set 80 to 72 and increase your chances of ball pinching AKA actually recomends
10,000-20,000 shots, prior to lowering the LPR

there is no exact number, and some guns take longer than others
the short version is your breaking in the springs

one of the most popular ways to break them in is flip the bolt around, and sit in your room, watch TV or movies and dry fire sevral
tanks of air through

the viking shoots flawless out of the box, regardless

Well your not really breaking the springs in (theres only one spring in a Viking, well 2 if you include the trigger spring), your actually breaking the Sidewinder, ram and LPR in, basically the Ram, LPR and to a point the Sidewinder are made to very close tolerences. After approx 10,000 cycles they will be optimally broken-in.

This not only allows the ram cycling pressure to be dropped but consistancy will also be at it's best as well.

As has been said the Viking will shoot flawlessly out the box and will even improve with time :)

tis the same with any marker i guess, much like a car they need a few cycles to 'bed in' all the components, springs valves etc

i normally sit in front of the telly and waste a few tanks of co2/air with a new gun

You can use it fine without breaking it in fully, it'll just break in as you use it. Also to break it in without shooting paintjust turn the bolt around and dry fire a few bottles of air.

It's the only marker that has to be broke in because its the only one thats the ram and lpr are designed and built to the tight tolerances AKA use.

Most markers do need some breaking it but nearly all of them don't have performance gains as the Viking.

They could of made the ram etc to lesser tolerances but risked them not being as reliable or have such a long life. At the end of the day the breaking in period doesn't affect the performance out of the box.

I really wouldn't worry about it :) then once its broken in fully you'll be able to exploit its full potential, bolt pressure of 60psi and set the board for 30.3bps, stick Halo B on it and enjoy! :D

bolt pressure of 60psi and set the board for 30.3bps, stick
60's to low for the higher bps settings and will lead you straight into shoot down

best pressure so far is 72 for the viking and 65 for the excal with the higher rate of fire settings

Well your not really breaking the springs in (theres only one spring in a Viking, well 2 if you include the trigger spring),

there are 4 springs in the viking including the trigger

trigger

valve

pn reg spring

and a belleville spring pack

but can you play a game while breaking it in and also its gonna cost alot to break it in, and how come thi is the only gun i have heard of that you have to break it in

re-read my first post the viking shoots great straight out of the box and does not require break in,its just a benefit

rent a scuba, run some air through if your concerned about it,but its not somthing to worry about

Not seen any problem with Steve's viking set at 60psi!!! Including long strings over a chrono and on the field, no noticeable shootdown at all!

I don't believe there is one 'best' pressure, markers differ!

we have 3 vikings and 1 excal on our team, and all are well broken in, those numbers work excelent for us,sevral other local teams have all had,FSDO and drop off and cocnsitency problems
with useing a lower lpr setting

the 72 number is actually comming from aka's top techs
as the best setting for the higher rates of fire, including dan voils
who other than the aaron alexander is known here as the top aka tech

when we all started switching to it,the performance was noticable
so thats why i do recomend it aswell to other users going for the high rates

chances are the setting will change with the WAS board,so for now its golden
