air reg fluctuates

was wondering if anyone could help me??????
i have a Mac-dev conquest bottle and reg and when i seem to turn on the air the output psi seems to go up to 600psi then settles to 400psi after ive shot it a fair few times,is this normal?as i was at the masters this weekend and turned on the air just as i went onto the field and over chrono it was 302 so i couldnt use it for that game luckily we had a spare marker near by that i could use,after the game i had it over the chrono down to 265.should i just set it up in the morning then leave the air on all day or is this not right????would a service help this?i know you can not use oil on a reg but is grease ok?any help would be most helpfull cheers.

If could be a couple of things. It could either be your piston that needs greasing. Just (with no air in the bottle) unscrew the on/off cap and then a spring and piston comes out. Grease these and replace. Or it could be a dirty reg seat which is a bit more structural.

I had a conquest and when it worked it was excellent, but it gave me a lot of hassle with maintentance, same with the Gladiator reg.
