Now i'm no expert, but people ue air partly cos it doesnt freeze yer hand off when youre playin. i've heard thta co2 is better, its more efficent cos it operates at a lower tempeature, thus sing less co2 per shot than air, and a lower pressure making it safer.
there are other reasons i cant think of. ask Robinator hes a bit of a tech head and im sure he could give a thousand reasons to use air, including 'cos pro's use it'

I'm no expert either but the main diiference is the pressue in your co2 bottle is affected by temperature whereas the HPA it isn't. This varience in pressure with temperature changes means more risk of velocity fluctuations with your marker than co2. Bear in mind this is considered important because of the nature of paintball, we are shooting imperfectly round objects with a slightly varying force (pressure) each time so anything we can do to minimise the fluctuations in the factors which affect a paintballs flight is important.

Also you need to take measures to stop the gun drawing liquid co2 into your marker and hence knackering your o-rings, so anti-syphon tubes and in-line regs are recommended.

Air is cleaner and gives - via a regulator - a more regular input of air into your marker. It is a lot more expensive getting air than co2 but alot of people consider it one of the most cost-effective long term upgrades you can make.

because those neat little air bottles go off like a heafty grenade if they were to get punctured. Your paying for the safety element.

Air is less efficient, however its kinder to the seals in all markers, and that means less wear and tear.
It isnt effected by temperature in the same way co2 is.
it has a more consistent output because all the contents of the bottle is in a gaseous form, not Liquid AND gas like in CO2.

In short, CO2 can be a pain in the arse, especially if its cold.
Air is more reliable, cleaner, and consistent, but more expensive too.

A good air system is worth its weight in gold :)

Or small Brazillian Children :D

And Air doesn't create a 3 foot cloud burst when playing in cold weather - Anyone remember playing with Sterlings/Phantoms on liquid in winter? The field could end up like a scene from 'The Fog':( :D

Ahh yes - the "mobile smokescreen" effect :D

Used an Inferno at a site not so long ago with the same problem, along with ill-fitting paint that in some cases made a 90 degree turn out of the barrel. Felt like I'd just gargled with a fire extinguisher to hit naff all :(
