Air and CO2 question

I'm considering going HPA for two reasons.

1. The local site only uses compressed air
2. consistency of shots

But I am reluctant to spend the vast amount of money required in this country to get an HPA kit.
I read a thread lower down that seems to indicate getting a bottle from the States may not be legal due to the HSE laws. So my line of thinking is this...

A CO2 bottle is rated at either 205 or 250bar (2970 or 3627 psi) and the valve is rated at 3000psi, surely I'd be able to fill the bottle to the appropriate pressure for the bottle with out it being dangerous. Are there any parts inside a standard CO2 bottle with a lower rating like durst discs etc. and if so is it possible to build a bottle without them (that would be used solely for air) without effecting the safety and legality of the bottle.

I've heard different ideas on the matter a lot of people have said no you can't fill a CO2 bottle past 1600psi because it's dangerous but other have said you can fill it to the rating without any probs. I just want to know. Oh yeah and obviously there would be a regulator on the marker to reduce the output pressure of the bottle to 800 psi

Ok I've read your post a couple of times and I still can't quite understand what you are trying to do

A regulator on an air system has a burstdisk and an over pressure valve so you are limited to the limits of those parts, to replace any part like that to increase the psi of the bottle contents is asking for touble......not least the lack of your head if the bottle fails instead, and invalidating any site/tournament insurrance

You fill HPA bottles to the upper limit of the lowest rated component IE armageddon reg is a 4500 psi reg but quite commonly found on 3000 psi bottles so you fill up to the lowest limit in this case 3000psi

If you are talking about putting compressed air into a bottle intended for CO2.....DON'T DO IT !!!!!! Yes I see what you could be saying about the pressure rating but then the amount of compressed air you will get in a CO2 (normal use) tank will be so small you will not be able to fire many balls.
If I was to show you a wall of gauges and told you they all had a bottle on the other side and all the guages read 3000 psi which one would you chose to use?? You can't answer because you can't see the bottles just a pressure reading....
There are tanks (ally) that are intended for HPA but then they are larger than the ones you have in mind, perhaps a 20oz bottle would give you a fair amount of shots but then size wise (dimension that is) a .68ltr fibre wrapped tank would be a better route to take. Not getting into the DOT v HSE issue 'cos I have done that a fair few times in the past and it has (have you have seen) started again

Buy a fixed output bottle, NitroDuck, PMI etc.

Warped Sports in Wolverhampton 01902 455455 sell ducks for £100 inc VAT (or did last time I was over there) or Planet have
Air America Melee inc. 1.1ltr 3000psi Luxfer for £130 ex VAT

DO NOT put air into a CO2 bottle, if the bottle has had CO2 in it then the frezzing effect changes the strength of the metal making a rupture far more likely.

Cheers.

I had a look on the planet site at that Melee bottle for £130, is it the screw-in type with the fixed reg so that you can just use it instead of a C02 bottle? as in a direct swap.

(PS i would be using it on a Spyder AMG)

And I assume (as planet are a UK retailer) that they are HSE bottles?

EDIT: Dont worry about this, i've found out anyway.
