Ah ha!

From the review of Portugal on warpig:

There have been occasions when a player makes it to a bunker unseen and then gets given a chrono check highlighting his position to all of the opposition
Ah ha! I thought this could happen. That sucks. As a front guy I don't want those pesky refs giving away my possie to come and chrono me. Has this happened to anyone here?

As the person who wrote that report, I only saw it a few times (maybe twice) where I thought it was an issue and it wasn't as a favour to one team or other I think it was purely an overzealous judge with a lack of experience or thought. I highlighted it in my report becuase I wanted judges who read it to think about what they do and how they do it.

Many judges are not as good as they should be and sometimes give away players with checks which they shouldn't (cameramen do it also). It just requires a little more training for and thought by the judges.

In general I thought the use of on field chrono's to be very good, but as with anything and that number of judges it needs some refinement.

I thought in general the judging in Portugal to be excellent. I saw very few issues or biased judging. As ever it would be nice to get an independent professional set of judges though.

I also noticed quite how many teams that looses think the marshalls were at fault in some way and nearly every team that wins doesn't have a problem. I just hadn't noticed it so much when I was playing. And from watching many many games I can say i too saw realtively few instances of downright biased calls, most were just straight mistakes or not knowing the rules (which I saw a fair bit of).

Seems teams can't get beat anymore without moaning

I for one will try to shut the f*ck up more and let them get on with their job.

It does appear that teams appear to be happy to blame a bad reffing decision, rather tahn look at their performance on field,

Sometimes it will just feel like the ref caused te team to lose, but then, you simply have to get over it..

Maybe we are a long way off having professional marshalls, but why does'nt some one set up a marshalling course... I think UKPSF are meant to run one, just not heard anything about it.

this actually happened to the stupid troopers in toullouse si lit a player up on the angel field while playing a french team and the marshall kept him in the game so si shot him again and again only for si to be hit by the guy and si got called out so it does happen not very often but once is enough. if it is going to cost you a fortune to go to a tourney abroad the last thing you need is a marshall cheating as well as the player

I still think that:

The funniest reffing incident happened to Kelleys in Toulouse.

Wayne Kelley thought 'mmm, I think I should do a dead mans' so, he called over a French judge (always good to see it's the French every f*kin time) and explained that he was gonna do a dead mans. The judge then proceeds to show that he understood his request and stood back. Wayne then stands up and walks away.......guess what happens next.

YUP, the sam judge comes bolting over and pulls his armband. Bad call but funny as **** all the same.

it's probably just pure coincidence that the marshalls were french and we were playing a french team......

also in that game the first time they called game on and we all broke out only to see the french team at the other end walk out of there base complaining they hadn't heard the game on call.... although they still managed to come out far enough to watch were we broke to....

Having crested the slippery slope and started down the back side I think I can say to all the (former)players who quit when they perceive they
have reached the peak of their game, why don't you stick with it and become a ref. These people have the expeience, they know the grey areas the cheats
and all the little tricks, all they would need is the balls to do a stand up job of reffing.
