Age limit

Can someone please tell me what the age limit is to play paintball in the UK.
I was sure you must be 12 or over to hold a live paintball marker and fire one.

At 12 you must have adult supevision and parental consent.
At 14 you still must have parental consent untill you were sixteen.

For a start i know that when my local site was looking for insurance no insurance company would allow anyone under 12 to be insured if playing paintball.

Please can someone clarify this for me i'm looking for the law on this not peoples opinions or thoughts on what they think about it or a guess.

Firstly please note that in Law a Paintball Marker is classified as an Airgun and therefore covered under the provisions of the Firearms Acts 1968-1997

There is no legal minimum age for using an Airgun although if under the age of 14 you must be under the "direct supervision and control" of someone aged 21 or above

You cannot own an Airgun if you are under the age of 14. Also you cannot purchase one until the age of 17 (although if aged 14-16 somebody else can buy one for you)

I haven't personally run into an Insurance Company that will cover anyone under the age of 12 and if you could find one I'm betting the premium would be astronomical!

I've personally never heard of a site that lets under 12s play!!! Don't think I'd fancy marshaling them either it's hard enough looking after a bunch of 12/13 year-old running around with guns!! You can bet that the insurance will be through the roof though!

I do know of a site that "could" let new borns play if they wanted.
They had insurance for any age player.

However , they do have a self imposed limit of 12 years.
Simply because under that age , it just hurts too much ,
and you get a lot of tears.

So insurance is available if you dig for it.
