Having seen all this stuff going down regarding the scheduling of the DMA tourney, hows about the Millenium Series take advantage of the huge number of computer geeks out here in "paying-customer-land" ;) and have a scheduling program created.

Although I'm pretty sure there is more to the scheduling than just pulling team names out of a hat, it would certainly save a lot of hassle in the long run, if a tourney organiser could just type in team names and ranking, then, once all teams are registered (before the captains meeting), press the go button, and it creates a schedule, which is then printed out and collected by the captains on the way out of the meeting.

This month's PGI has an item about some software that schedules games at a tournament, & I gather Bully's 2002 series will be using it in future. The way the opponents are selected for the Millenniums is a bit different from the classic divisions but surely once the groups have been determined then it should work just fine for them as well.
I also gather that you can print out individual schedules for each team as well as the overall schedule, and evolve team profiles over the season. Sounds a very nice application all in all.

We've been on the case for about six months but the programme is immense.

Look at the variations.

Any number of teams
all to play 10 games
on 4,5,or 6 fields
against pro am and novice teams
in ranking order
schedule times
etc etc etc.

Its the any number of teams bit which is the hard bit.

The guy who has been doing it designs missile guidance systems..(Yes a Rocket scientist). Its 10 times harder!!

So if you come up with a programme that works let me know.. I'll sort you out;)

It has to be 100% perfect.

I used to run a Very large computer LAN in the North East.. for creating schedules for tournaments we used one of several freeware league table programs... just do a search on Google and you'll easily find one.. (for all of you computer aware paintballers)

Niall,

I got to ask one more time... How do you organize the schedules currently?? Tell us your exact system so verybody knows..

Secondly, you can ask the soccer world cup organizers they seem to do it very well on the prelims and after prelims it is based on a system.

For example, every group has a leader (ie. a pro team who got the most points is on division A1 then lesser is on B1 etc. and put the weakest team on A4 and pros qualify with pros ams with ams and novices with novice.

Let us know...
