I know this is probably a question everyone on here has answered a million times but bear with me please.
Im looking to get into paintballing and am trying to pick up a marker but i honestly think i have been searching way too much and suffering information overload!
I have been using an ego 7 for a bit ( mates marker ) and it feels good to use etc but i have also used an etek and in my opinion there is not a big enough leap in performance to make me wanna spend the extra cash on the ego.
What other markers should i look into?
i would rather not buy a marker that is fine for now but in a while ill be looking an upgrade and feel i wasted my money when i should have just waited and saved a bit longer for a better marker.
Im not needing to get it right away but i guess if someone is looking an upgrade id jump at the chance to get a good second hand one now.

Cheers jeff

first off dont take this as a rant...im being nice...i just cant do it well.

the etek and ego 7 are totally different, the 07 is a totally redesigned platform and i find much smoother to use. If you want to splash for an Ego7 you will not be disapointed and will probably turn into a whore like most people wanting more and more and more....its just the way it is.

the etek for what it is, is fantastic. the firm crew where using these at the end of last season and i think most of them prefered them to ego6's.

if you take either of them you will be happy they are both awsome markers that will shoot and shoot forever.

im sure lovetone will come on and kick my ass for some of this....he will know much more than i do.

dont get why you would need your ass kicked your kinda confirming what i already thought why spend the extra money on an ego 7 when the e-tek will do all i need and more. the only real difference i noted usint both markers was the ego7 felt more balanced but the e-tek did have a normal steel bottle and the ego had a lightweight one but the difference was incredible.
really all i need is a load of opinions from you lot as you know a helluva lot more than me
any other markers i should look into tho?

i was going to spend a lot of cash on a marker, but instead plumped for a new pmr, dirt cheap and shoots really nice. leaving you cash to buy everything else you need: mask, hopper, air bottle, pack, pots and playing....**** like that..

iv not shot an ego or etek tho so cant give you a comparison

Same as talasan really i started with an ion and then went to the pmr though. Saying that I'd love to give an etek a go and if i had the money i'd simply just buy one :p If you've tried both though only you can know which marker best fits your stance, either way there was an etek or 2 going in the classifieds if i remember rightly so they're readily available.

Ok there are 2 types of marker available.

Simple budget markers with no fancy bits (etek esk)

Fancy ninja markers with bells and whistles (ego7 esk)

You just have to decide on a few things. Do you want to be able to text message your mate and shoot him at the same time, or do you want a switch on and go gun? (I have no idea if you can actually text on an ego7, I made that up)

budget guns:
Etek
Invert Mini
Ion
PMR

High End Guns:
EGO7
DM7
PM7
Shocker
Quest
Marq7 (is that right?)

Theres more, but thats enough to research for you. If you need any information about the Invert Mini, you can PM me no probs, and I'll let you know everything you need to know. I play Div 1 PA League and Div 1 Millennium if you need to know how credible I am.

Yup, also available as a Onyx, Marq6, Mummy, Closer, Rapper, Darq7... (But I don't know if anyone is selling them over here )

With the budget guns like the Mini and Etek you won't be needing to do many if any upgrades to the gat out of the box, you'll be ready to rock and have some fun with money left to play. If you end up getting a new stock ion expect to pour some cash into it unless you buy an already upped 2nd hand one. The PMR will also rock out of the box, but many people like to replace some of the composite/plastic parts on it like the trigger, feedneck collar, end cap (I believe), which will cost extra, but can also add a bit of personal flair with coloured parts.

I would probably have popped the PM7 in with the Etek category to be honest.

For your first marker anything in the top list will be more than capable of doing what you want it to.

Personally i would highly recommend buying second hand, which will open up a whole new range of markers in your price bracket. ie for the price of a new Etek you could pick up a DM6, PM6, Ego6, Shocker, probably with at least a loader and not too much extra to pay out for an air system.

All of the major manufacturers will give you great backup even on a second user marker and spare parts are plentiful!

i appreciate the response guys it helps a lot i was using the etek all day today and i think my mind is nearly made up. the etek may not be as capable for a super shooter that can fire out massive amounts of paint but it certainly isnt far behind ( in my opinion ), they both behave the same and feel every bit as good to shoot with so i honestly cant justify the extra cash on the ego7, the screen is cool ill admit tho LOL.
I think ill go with the etek and spend the extra on a good hopper and lightweight air tank and i dont think ill be dissapointed at that.
anyone got reduntant gear they are looking rid of BTW, would like a couple of pairs of playing pants/trousers etc that i dont mind getting covered in crap!

Thanks again
Jeff

ha

i like(d) all eclipse guns
the 07 is far the best of them all
for the cash the etek is the next best (based on new price AND 2nd hand)
there isnt much between the 05 and the 06. the 06 is easier to setup the board, the rest is personal preference.

the 07 kills them all though
