A-5 flatline ball deviation problem

My mates just bought a second hand flatline barrel and we have just put it into his A-5 and shot 600 proballs through it. though they were going straight and flat (no dip) over the 60 foot firing range hes got, there was a LOT of side to side deviation. Balls were flying 2 feet to the left, next one 2 feet to the right, next one, spot on, next one 8 inches right, next 2 18 inches left etc.

What could be going on?

I've heard guys having to “set up” their flatline, but I don’t know what they mean.

How do I set it up?

The barrel seems ok. Cant feel any gungy build up, there are a few ‘lines’ inside the barrel where the rough ‘white/grey’ surface seems to have been scoured off.

I'm not sure what I can do to correct the problem and what the problem is!

Cheers guys.

I'm a bit disappointed cos my mate was really looking forward to the flatline and we both feel a bit disappointed.

Flatlines are for range not accuracy..because the ball isnt really being hugged at all sides in the barrel just the top the backspin being put onto the ball opposes motion perpendicular to the axis of spin ie. It doesnt appose side to side motion..either do most barrels tho but most barrels huge all sides of the ball giving a straighter trajectory.

I have seen accurate flatlines but make sure u are using good paint. Flatlines can tend to be great with someones A5 and crap with another persons A5.

what Ryan says ^^^ and thats not exactly bad grouping from that range (its all that liquid filled projectile nonsense)- paint quality really matters - 1 shot 1 kill - nice in theory but unrealistic in practice im afraid bud ;)

cheers guys

My mates just shot another 400 rounds with the velocity adjuster right down and we’ve tried 3 different paints.

Lower velocity and a good quality paint (evil seemed good, then proball then midnight) have improved things.

Interesting point you made about the FL being a range weapon more than an accuracy increasing piece of kit.....i did wonder why there are score marks on the TOP of the barrel and not the bottom.

1 shot 1 kill .... as you say, nice theory, but as long as the buggers die who cares how many shots they’ve been lit up with :)

p.s i heard somewhere that the gelatine build-up on the inside of the FL can affect its performance. what’s the best way to get a FL really clean?

dont think you clean em any different to any other barrel.....squeegie em out, and polish em with a fluffy.......ive been known run a barrel under the tap before today, wont do any damage to it.

Darkwerks......

Not trying to flog your latest products are you? lol :)

The apex do seem good ;)

how much did you flog your A-5 apex for? (saw your A-5 pic on ebay....awsome!)

Ryan

Thanks mate. the Proball and evil was defo better and so was winding down the velocity....but running CO2 on cold days is terrible for spikes and freezing! not good

It went for £96 :)
From experience, the flatline needs good quality paint, nice round ball with no dimples. CO2 is no good as even the smallest amount of condensation will cause wingers. Even with an expansion chamber, an inline reg and an anti-syphon, things are still going to be iffy. Any moisture at all, like gun oil , broken paint or rain will cause some swing.
check also that the barrel isn't slightly out of alignment and that you are holding it dead centre.
