Is it possible to screw in and use a 3000psi bottle on a 4500psi maxflow rig, as long as I only fill the bottle to 3000psi. the cost if a whle new air system is the same as a new marker so I have a bottle all ready and a new max flow isn't too expensive, but will the combination work alright?

You can use a 3000 bottle on a 4500 reg, or a 4500 bottle on a 3000 reg, as long as you only fill to the limit of the lower one, i.e. 3000psi.

It would be a good idea to put in the correct burst disc for 3000psi operation (about 5000psi?), as a 4500psi reg will probably come with a 7500psi burst disc, which is a bit high to protect a 3000psi bottle. Probably no major danger if you don't do this, but it's better to be safe than sorry, eh?

As Rabies said if you do do it make sure you DO replace the burst disc for one rated for a 3000psi systems..

There might be one problem, I have a vague recollection of being told that MaxFlos have a non-standard thread & thus can only be used with Smart Parts bottles. I may be going mad, so it might be worthwhile sending them an email/phoning just to make sure.

And you could put a 4500 bottle on a 3000 reg - you just wouldn't want to fill it to 4500!!!

Nope, maxflo's have standard threads (at least nowadays.) AFAIK it's only really guvnairs now that have weird threads.
