site limits are all 300 fps or 280 fps due to law saying you need a license to shoot an air gun over that limit (as far as i know)
so if the legal limit was say 400 fps would that mean everyone would be shooting at that velocity?
or is 300 fps the most efficient and genuine way to shoot paintballs, and by chance is also the legal limit
just something that crossed my mind today
thanks

Its not the FPS that the law limits, it is limtied to the energy the projectile has when hitting an object.

If we used lighter paintballs, we could shoot at a higher FPS, but then you have to tradeoff that against other things like crosswinds.

A paintball of roughly 3 grams (actually 2.8 something) shot at 350fps gives around 12 foot pounds.

If you wanted to shoot at 500fps the paintball would have to weigh 1.4 grams
600fps 0.9 grams
700 - 0.7

ect

Obviously the lighter you go, the more outside elements will effect the paintball in flight.
