The NPPL's Denver registration has been open for 4 hours.
There are 126 teams registered so far.
Camille thinks they will be sold out by the close of play tomorrow and entries into the lower divisions are already limited.

Could be 240 teams in Tampa and Miami, which would be insane. Looks like the NPPL could be going to 4 day events soon.

:p

if they go 7 fields - where will they get the refs for them? we have a tough time keeping 8 on the field now.

four day events - who's going to convince my boss to give me the extra vacation time?

I like the 5 minute game idea.... eliminates that whole "sit and shoot" period most teams get into between the 3 and 6 minute marks ;) I wonder if there would be the same outcry there was for the Mil dropping to 8 games? "we're paying x per minute to play and wah wah wah..."

thinking about it, I doubt any of the american ballers will come up with that arguement because it would require at least basic math skills. It would probably get more "awww man, that suxxorz"....

there are not many options really as I see it.

turn down the teams
Play through the night
add a field
add a day.

the refs obviously are biggest hurdle and the limiting factor. Can the refs do an extra day? I am pretty sure the extra field won't work, playing through the night is a nono too. So either the refs can do the extra day or the teams get turned away I guess.

Is NPPL a victim of its own success?

What's the big deal with an added field? It's been done before, after all.

If they add a day does that mean some teams play their prelims over three days or maybe half on a Thursday and half on Saturday? Without giving it serious thought that doesn't sound like a winner to me.

It's all about the 5 minute game. Its time is coming, the writing is on the wall, er, the net.

D2 would presumably start a day earlier and play thier finals on the center court before the pro's play on Saturday afternoon. They would not play Sunday.
This is just my suggestion of course, but the extra field means more refs. The refs are very much a limiting factor. An extra day uses no more refs (not necessarily, but theoretically), and a solution without bringing in more green refs would have to be the betterone oin my opinion.
