Hi there

been looking around these forums for a few days and it seems like a friendly place.

i stopped smoking a few months back and have decided i need a new physical activity outside work.
i have been looking to get into paintball for ages but never really researched it too much

a work colleague of mine has pursuaded me to get involved and go to a few beginner days.

i really want to get some decent gear for myself, i know that paintball is like most circumstances in life and buying cheap normally means buying twice.

my colleague has specced me a starter kit including the following:

Proto SLG Marker
3000psi 48cu Air tank
VL Eye Force Loading hopper
NXe 3 pod waist pack
3 x ball pods
cleaning sticks
VForce Vantage Goggle
500 Paintballs

from what i gather the marker is a good value product as it is essentially a rebranded/budget version of the Dye marker.

the other kit seems ok for an entry level player too.

the only thing that worries me is that i read a lot of people saying that buying a good mask is more important than getting a good marker.

would it be advisable to sell the VForce Vantage mask on and consider a premium mask instead such as one of the following:

Proto Switch Axis Pro
Dye I3 Pro

i have also read a lot about 14 inch barrels being superior to the SLG stock barrel - is it worth bothering with or should i see how i get on with the barrell on the marker at stock?

good to be here anyway and if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated :)

As the saying goes you get what you pay for...

To be honest if you have a budget and would like to share it on here with all , we will aid you in the right direction ..

What area of paintball are you looking to play ??

Woodsball.
Supair.
Milsim.

:)

Ohhhh and welcome to P8nt... :)

Ive got myself a vantage and its served me well over the last few years, perfect for a beginner.

If youve got that kinda budget you could look at getting an ego 05, etek 1, or a mini for about £150, try borrowing a marker to go to a walk-on day and then asking people to try out their markers to see what you prefer.

The mask will be fine for now, but it does make quite a difference having a good comfy mask with a dual pane lense that doesn't fog up. I might suggest a different loader (a Reloader B can be had 2nd hand off here quite cheaply). Other than that...more paint lol. You're all set bro, have fun. Stay on here to find out more about events near you. :)

V-force are a top end mask company, the vantage is simply one of their older products - still just as good, and some people still use 'em as if they'd just gone on the market. If you find that you don't like them then sure, sell them on, but it's really not necessary.
:)
Couldn't reccomend a better new marker for that price, the SLG's are awesome pieces of starter kit and mine never let me down. Buying new and having a warranty is definately what you want to do if you're new to markers. Dye/Proto have fantastic service and you can even contact them through these forums.

I'm agreeing with Dev a little, a hopper upgrade couldn't hurt. The Empire Reloader B is superior and really saves on batteries - but it's entirely your choice. If you don't want to enter the second hand market, then your setup will work perfectly fine.
:)

Worry about the barrel when it gets to it. I upgraded mine after using it once, but you may find that it works fine and you needn't spend the money.

Welcome to p8nt, mate
:D

Looks good to me mate. Only thing, a different pack may serve you better for woodsball. 3 pods isn't a huge amount of paint exactly. 'Specially not for woodsball.

Oh and something else i might add, is the SLG works great if you're not too sure what you want to play yet. To elaborate, it allows you to stay in the woods as a caveman and come out to where the real men play if you want to :D

But other than that, looks good to me. Welcome to the forums.

If you got the Axis Pro you wont regret it. Wore them all last season and will be this season and have been by far the comfiest goggles ive ever had and removing/replacing lenses and straps is a piece of p*ss (something that can be a lot of hassle on some masks).

The Empire Avatars are often up for half price, they're almost exactly the same as the 08 Events. If you can get either of these goggles quickly they are fantastic!

But don't get the 09 Events. They are...bad.
