Pudzianowski's first MMA fight

Sid Sidgwick

Tinkering ain’t easy
Sid, when you're hitting that hard, as he most certainly is, technical attention is somewhat academic.
The guy has power that's for sure, and from the look of his finishing, I think he displays the heart of a fighter.

All that remains is, how far up the UFC ladder he will go; I doubt he will go anywhere near K1, not because he has more to fear from that than UFC, but because the bigger bucks will be stuffed into his pocket via UFC.

UFC are all about the money I'm afraid, and I mean ALL.

The only similar fighter I can think of who is similar in terms of naive style is Bob Sapp, he too had power coming out his eyelids but his weaknesses were soon exposed when going up against some powerful technicians of MMA...and from them, there was no hiding place.

Should be fun to watch though as Marius makes his way thru the UFC fighter's card.

I got another vid somewhere of me going up against Neil Grrove during training a few weeks back [I'll try and find it and stick it up if I can] and as you may know, he's been knocking his way thru the European cage fighters for some time now.
I think he's 6ft 6 and was 23 stone at some stage; I'm just lucky he didn't get angry with me :)
Robbo,

Sapp was stupidly strong but his lack of mobility was always an issue (worst fight ever Sapp vs Hong man Choi)

Marius will deffinately enter the UF$ as now Lessner is sidelined they need someone like Marius to step in and fill the gigantuan role.

Marius moved quickly but I fear a Kimbo Slice like fighting style.

Looking forward to seeing your latest beating ;)

Its all about entertainment, because where there's entertainment there's money and the fight game these days is all about money/entertainment; this is why we see people like Sapp and Lesnar climbing through the ropes.

Sapp was freakish in his build and could certainly do damage but as you say, I don't think he won that much in the way of titles, if anything.

Perhaps we shouldn't get too cynical here because for years boxing tournaments were, and are still referred to as Boxing shows.
Indeed, cash is the name of the game, here.. as most places.
If Mariuz does actually make it, it could be a matter of cash, thou..
he has a terrific amount of musclemass. Like you ;) (no no, i aint trying to get a mod status, bro.. :D)

I think having a lot of muscle-mass sometimes invites negative opinions that aren't all that helpful.
It is usual to hear things like, 'oh, he may look as though he is strong with all them muscles on show but it ain't like real strength' ... blah, blah, blah!

I'm not saying I am anything special here and the only reason I am bringing this up is because I know it to be the truth.
A month or so back, I had to spar with a guy who was around 2 stone (28 pound) lighter than me but he was a wrestling instructor and so was well-versed in take-downs and submission holds.

Now, going into that sparring session, I honestly thought this guy was gonna tuck my elbow up my ass coz I got no wrestling skills whatsoever, well, no more than wrestling with my little brother had given me some 45 years ago anyway.

This guy had all the technical skills you could ever want just hanging out his ass; even his ear-lobes knew how to choke me out.

But ...when it came to actually fighting, he had real problems in getting to me.
Now I am not for one second suggesting here, I am any great shakes in the cage fighting/wrestling game coz I'm not but ...because I was considerably stronger, he was virtually incapable of getting to me, even when we went to ground ... .
Now this surprised the hell outa me and this makes me think Mariuz will go further than most people think.
Marius not only looks strong but is incredibly strong.

I also think Marius did some boxing before and so his heart can't really be bought into question.
If he's schooled by somebody like Couture or Silva then he'll be up there, in fact, I'd go as far as saying, if he didn't get that quality of tuition, it would be a waste.

From what i've seen Mariuz do in strongman worldcup,
i think he can hold his own for sure, thats what i ment with musclemass,
why not squeeze the crap outa the opponent?
Well, we'll just have to wait and see if he finds the technique.

Couple of things spring to mind when I watched the fight.

First off is how stiff he is standing up. For someone who has previously boxed he is very rigid with little to no head movemnet.

After the fight he is panting away, so would have to question his cardio.

Against an out and out striker I would give him a good chance in the UFC, say against JDS or Kongo. Against a Mir (especially the new bigger Mir from Saturday night) or Gonzaga (albeit he has a bit of a glass jaw at times), big Nog, or anyone else with a decent ground and standup game he would struggle.

Give him to Extreme Coutoure or Gregg Jacksons camp for a bit though and sort his ground etc I think he might do alright.

All this assuming he would be sanctioned though in the US as he has a bit of a merky past (and one DQ) for using dodgy substances! The question is would he test negative!?!

Saying that a fight in Japan against someone like Fedor would be huge, they like there freak fights over there... like Bob Sapp and Hong Man Choi. Anything with a bit of a freakshow/sporting (like the WSM title) would go down a treat.

According to an interview he gave, he had a strong fever in the morning of the fight...might have to do with his cardio...

And he's not a boxer, he trained karate for 12 years.

its not unusual for a fighter to gas as soon as a fight is over, especially a debut. the build up of adrenaline before the fight coupled with nerves fuel the fight and once its over the release makes you blow.

hell i have ran the length of the paintball field and been breathing out my ass afterwards.

trying to compare him to mir or any top fighter seems a bit harsh after one fight but like you say give him a good camp and he should improve quickly.
