I don't see any disgusting irony in the fact that its called the White house. Not once I consider that its painted white.
Now, if you want to get into the centuries of oppression my people have endured due to decisions made in said 'white' house thats another matter....

Centuries?????
Yes you are right .....
Hmmmmm, interesting ................
When is the past not the past Missy?

I tell ya when, it's when people can't recognise it as such and use the past for their own ends, you won't see me bitching about the Roman oppression and subjugation we suffered for hundreds of years just because we were Brits ....... the only difference I can see between the black subjugation by the American whites is, this happened hundreds of years ago and the Roman subjugation and oppression of the Brits, well, that took place hundreds of years ago .....get my point ?

This is why people can't move forward - they're too busy looking back !

It annoyed me that the radio reported him as the first BLACK president. Surely he's just the NEXT president (regardless of colour, creed, sex etc.)?

This makes for interesting reading.

As does this.

Remember - all men are created equal. It's just that some are created more equal than others!

Nope. Don't see the similarity of your comparison.

Racism is alive and well in Atlanta, and occupies many other southern strongholds. The elderly Black people still step down offa the pavement to let the white man pass. Segregation still exists in living memory, as do the Black Panthers, and then of course there's the assassination of Dr King, whom we remembered yesterday, just 50 years ago.
Have you seen any recent instances of Brits cow-towing to Italian tourists that leads you to believe that the Roman oppression still casts its ugly shadow over your green and pleasant land?

Obama is the first non-white president (whatever label you want to attach to him, he ain't white) and that's a big thing for a country that's been knee deep in racism for so long.

He never made much of a point of his ethinicity during his campaign. In fact, he has been criticised by the black community, because at some point he spoke down on them.

I think the biggest thing about today is that America has finally gotten to a point (though only just so) that it's willing to look past what color somebody is.

Sure, some people voted for him because he ain't white and some folks voted against him because he ain't white, ignorance is ignorance, but by and large people voted for him because they believed in what he says and support his policies, despite his ethinicity. Had he really been sold as "the black option", he would have never won. White America would not vote for somebody just because he's black. Never.

You know what would be a real shocker? A US president that isn't Christian. Doesn't have to be a Muslim, an atheist would be just as shocking...

I'm an Aussie and as a nation we have had a shameful past regarding non-whites.

Anyhoo, I am glad to see Obama in the White House as this will ensure there will never be another pathetic and racial response as typified by Hurricane Katrina. Glad to see that some white neohawks will get whats coming to them as well! [watch Spike Lee's documentary about it 'when the Levees broke', simply moving]
I am not trying to get on anyone's side but what happened to the mainly poor black community there was a farking disgrace in this day and age.

I am proud to be an Aussie and acknowledge our past but I judge on who you are and not what your skin colour is-I am even nice to the Poms so what more can you ask for? :D

Oh, and I have had a paintball dependency since 1991 and have bought all sorts of crap! I even bought a VL3000-why I do not know to this day! I bought a sterling because of Robbo! [1994 I think?]

I 100% agree with this Missy and I would never ignore the fact of what's happened over the recent past but if you noticed, I started off my reply to you with the word 'centuries' and as such, I was pitching my post along those lines.
There seems to be an automatic default to bringing up the distant past and it is this I was referring to mate.

Hold on a second!!!! Despite your disapproval of this thread, what do you think makes it ok for you to use such a racially pejorative term as 'cracker'? At no time has anyone mentioned their ethnicity in their post so what gives you the right to use it in an attack?

I understand that you are a popular charachter on these forums and I often enjoy reading your outspoken point of view, but such a slur to me is unacceptable and dissapointing.
sorry for digging back a bit, so robbo soz for bringing this up again but i just have to say.

on the line with frog, missy is always online and has a good atmosphere about her when shes here and her posts are always funny and well written.

but please dont use the term 'cracker' again, i know you meant nothing from it, but i just want to state it. its, to me atleast, racail slur, cracker is a term to describe a white person, and im sure that many black people would be much offended if i called them a 'chocolate head' for example, i know in music etc it is said a lot in rap etc. although it is quite annoying that white people are constantly bashed for being racist on the slightest phrase and not using political correct terms (this is by no means a dig at ethnics or that, and i am not racist, just to clarify, but it is seen alot through the countrys move towards 'politicla correctness' along with other matters such as religion etc), although in music continually rappers use the phrase crackers to describe white people, personally i find it unnaceptable.

again, i know you meant no harm in it, so please dont take it as an attack and again i am sorry for bringing it up.

on another note, it is good to see a black person in the white house, a country such as america has moved on and it is anpther step to people accepting m,ulti culterism into society as a whole :)
