but is the domestic scene big enough to sustain such a league?

On the league front I think several smaller leagues that are under one umberella league is the way to go.

What i mean is, you play your local tourney as normal, but then once or twice a year there is an event (like Shoot the Rainbow or Heavens Gate). Teams from all over the country come together and play eah other based on their standing within the sub-league they are in.

For example, the top half of Div1 south are grouped with the top half of Div1 north. (or however the sub-leagues would work out)

So here we would have seperate sub-leagues individually run, but to a standard set by the umberella league, which would be presumably run by a board of some type (which would ideally consult a group of long standing and respected team capts)

which would require site owners and league organisers to work together in perfect harmony, with a consistent set of rules.

yeah right...........

Well i think the idea of a national paintball league would be without a doubt awsome!

And just like eastie said im in full time education at 14 years old theres noway i can spend up to a thousand pounds going abroad at this stage but if we had a national league were it would be all around the uk i reckon paintball would be vastly improved.
It would change the way people look at it aswell, also i reckon there would be more teams starting up,more sponserships and then more pro teams starting to form up.

I think overall a national paintball UK league would be one of the best ideas for UK Paintball of all time !

Yours Dextrus!

money will always be an issue. alot of people including myself enjoy just going out and shooting people/getting shot at. i dont have the money or time outside of work to train every weekend or travel the length of the country to tournaments. i agree in 1 premiership style league for the entire country but on a side note the existing tournaments should still run allowing the small time players an option also. i'd quite happily train and travel every weekend if someone gave me a job allowing me to do this and if someone was to fund my addiction :)

I have a better idea, lets reform the Preds, BSQ, Demolition, NWC, Shades, Banzai, Lions, Rat Pack, Bad Company, Short Timers et al, and pretend the last 15 years never happened...

Thing is, there never was a major UK league (at least not in my eyes)
The Mayhem Masters was always the event everyone wanted to win, and previous to that - the 'Mayhem warm-up'. Koow Doow and Hook Wood put on good events that kept people busy in-between. Paintball was played by men, and if someone was 18 (a-la Dave Spittle) they were considered 'the kid'. Unfortunately, and no offence to the youf of today, the sport is dominated by kids who are too young to drive, or think its cuh-razy to put stickers on the cars they do have access to. They have no money, and spend thier time looking for used gear on the cheap rather than supporting thier local stores.

Where are the store teams? Every store used to have at least 2 teams. The fields also had teams, where are they? Its useless to expect kids to organise themselves into cohesive units. It needs someone with drive and determination. Where are those guys, the Captains?

Before you have a league, you need the strong/stable teams. Before you have them you need the strong leaders - people who are in the game, own a field or store, and are genuinely enthused about the game.

Pete, you're an old romantic, and I love how you and Chris still want to make things happen and shake up the scene. I'm not sure you really want to go around the merry-go-round again, simply because you've said you don't (quite a few times), and I don't think a whole new league is the answer either.
Are the existing venues going to capitulate and follow the lead - doubtful. Therefore you further segment the market.
Do you have enough top teams to draw the lower teams in - No, not unless I'm missing something.
For me, the answer is to start small(er). The UK needs a big annual flagship event, in addition to the MS event, where there are big prizes and universal support (possible because it does not clash with other peoples series). When thats up and running, people will want to train for it, practice for it and most importantly, actually play it.
Does the event need Pete Robinson to be involved in order to be successful? Yes, absolutely it does, Chris too, and Ledz, and absolutely everyone else too.

Robbo, completely agree, as with your post the other day, it needs someone to approach the sport with the money to front up a tournament series that does everything it should and it needs to be in the UK.

It needs to be at 5 or 6 sites around the country so everyone can compete, it needs to have qualified competent marshals, it needs to have the trade stands.

If I won the lottery I'd give it a go but it'd need alot of work

As for UK ballers our atttitude absoltely stinks!!;)
house not all uk ballers attitude stinks
there are a lot of people out there who do try to help...

As for uk p8ntball thats a hard 1

I don't want people running away with the idea we need some money man to stroll in and sort things out ..... the thing is, we don't need that, it would be nice if it happened but we can't rely on it.
The leagues of yesteryear weren't started by money men, they were started by normal guys who happened to own sites but they ain't gonna do this unless they can avoid losing money .....

And that my friends is where you lot come in...because we only get what we pay for here and if you want all the bells and whistles then it's gotta be paid for.
The aforementioned need for a shift in player attitude has just reared its head ....

I know you had taken a break, but you do realise you are talking to the UK paintballers here? You know, the ones who want gold for the price of tin?
