I'm really bored and wet from work today so mainly for my own amusement I am going to run a competition similar to that of the ones we receive in the plat section.

This won't be paintball related so an equal chance for all members of the forum if you actually can be bothered to take part.

To try it off, I'm going to offer up the red bandanna in my for sale thread.

There may also be a bonus prize if I think someone has a really cleaver/funny answer that isn't the one I'm thinking of ;)

Question:
What is special about the number 1701?

Rules:
Will close on Monday 21st Jan at 9pm
The same answer can not be posted twice - everyone must be different
The competition will not start until tonight at 8:30pm
When you post your answer, post how you came upon it and be truthful.

Jethro Tull invented the seed drill (in 1701), the horse-drawn hoe, and an improved plough. Tull was educated at Oxford, England where studied law, he later studied agriculture during his travels across Europe. Jethro Tull inherited land in the southern part of England where he put into practice his study of agriculture.

His seed drill would sow seed in uniform rows and cover up the seed in the rows. Up to that point, sowing seeds was done by hand by scattering seeds on the ground. Tull considered this method wasteful since many seeds did not take root. The first prototype seed drill was built from the foot pedals of Jethro Tull's local church organ.

Jethro Tull was part of a group of farmers who founded the Norfolk system, an early attempt to apply science to farming. In 1731, Jethro Tull published "The New Horse Houghing Husbandry: or, an Essay on the Principles of Tillage and Vegetation".

OHH yeh if it is what you are thinking can i have the bonus prize instead:D google was for the infomation but a book on farming in the study gave me the idea
