It took me a while to win over my parents about the money I was spending on it, I'd just tell them that things cost about £100 instead of several hundreds more.

Over time they started showing more interest especially now that I get to play in other countries which made them realise it's a bigger deal than they ever thought of.

Show them pictures of you playing if you find any, any dvd's or videos to show them what you are actually doing can get pretty serious, but also that it does take a fair whack of change and time to get good at the sport. If they dont come round to it, you'll just have to cope on your own money and travel wise.
I've managed it and so have most others, so no reason you cant if you want it enough
