I always used a long length of thin acetate over the lens on my CamScope, especially when testing on Melons etc close range as they tend to spray a bit!I think its a great idea

On two motorised rollers rollers, so you wind it on like film in a camera, when it is dirty....same thing on F1 cars on TV
What sort of Stepper Motors are you using Morrolan?
The one in The Jackal was pretty good, but was automatic weapon...fun, but not Cool.
The one in Shooter, single shot, which is very advanced, is Cool

Never managed to rig anything to control recoil though.
I allowed for it, dampened it, but couldn't find a way to get it under control for a quick second shot, had to wait about 20 seconds between shots.
Consider the safety aspects of a device that could fire without warning and without (obvious) human interaction, particularly outside the context of a playing field, but also on the field.
