so how come barrels with less than 8 inches of no porting achieve 300fps?
so then, in essence the redz pepper sticks, with their 8 inch backs would be the best barrel?
Im still thinking of a Freak... sorry im a woodsballer and like my things matte or dust color, i really dont like the glossy finish...
are there any other matte/dust color barrels, other than the UL and Freaks?
sorry for all the questions, rather new to paintball, and i like to do alot of research before i buy anything, to make sure i've done the right thing
In my country the paint balling community is pretty much a one street thing, everyone has the same stuff, and wandering away from the main is hard.
Well, its a question of efficiency.
A longer barrel, will require more air to have a ball exit at 300 fps.
Porting on a barrel, means more air is required, if there is lots of porting before you get to the 8 inch mark.
It's the same with Air Rifles. A .177 air rifle, requires more air to achieve 12ftlbs of muzzle energy . If you put a .22 barrel on a .177 Air rifle (can be done easily enough), it will shoot above the 12ftlbs limit (which is highly illegal over here!)
To be honest, it's academic really. People were saying you need this length barrel etc, and Tom proved that you only need 8 inches to allow a given volume of gas to accelerate the ball to 300 fps.
If you chrony a marker to 300 fps, with a 14 Freak or similar ported barrel, then put a shorter and/or unported barrel on the gun (like a Redz back), the gun will shoot hot, period.
If you like the black matt Freak, get it...they look lovely (better than the old one) and you can choose the insert you need.
Peppersticks only come in Gloss Black.
If your into Woodsball, you may want to try (as well) one of the trick barrels, like the one that allows you to turn the front of the barrel, to put spin on the ball, and shoot around corners, dip the shots, or give them longer range...cant remember what they are called now.
