It's such a shame that the british teams won't make the effort to play just one leg of the best series that europe has to offer. This will be my third consecutive CC (Birmingham, CP and now basildon) with a a couple of the other rounds throw in as well and i have to say no torney series in the UK can compare to the buzz i get at mils.

Get your arses in gear folks, as numberous people have pointed out M5 is an affordable option and is engineered to give teams a taste of what the series can offer. If we can't provide the teams the millenium needs to cover its considerable costs they will go elsewhere and it is us who will lose out.

Edit: i saw one of the banners for the basildon festival on the train this morning...hmmh temptation to go stick a campaign banner next to it

Flying the flag for UK 'ball...

myself and a bunch of guys from Mayhem Paintball have put together a team to enter M5 at campaign, we are hoping to continue and go on to other events too...

Campaign is our first tourney, but with the fantastic coaching we have received our spirits are all up, and we will be slinging paint for the UK :D

C'mon guys sort it out, show the Euro-Ballers that Britains got BALLS :p

I should point out that I am not directly involved with the Millennium itself other than assisting with the sourcing of this venue and talking with local service providers.

Lack of accomodation should not be an issue, there are shed loads around here and the Festival is mainly locals, not people who will be staying in hotels - this is the first thing we checked when we spoke to the council and the hotels.

I might have a couple of spare rooms at the Holiday Inn, after a couple of our staff pulled out. I won't know this until the end of the week, but I wll post up here first before letting them go.

The venue being seen as a step down - yes it is not a major national stadium but it does offer other things we do want. Hotels close by, security & access to name a few. It is also more adaptable. Plus of course the Apres Ball facilities. Although I can't say oficially I have managed to secure free entry to most venues on the Festival Park for all Millennium ID holders over that week (Trying to reduce your £700 event bill Jon!!). All will be published after I have the confirmation.

We have also secured a major restuarant chain to provide the catering. I must add at this stage that I nor the MS make any money out of this deal - it was seen as an upgrade to what has been provided in the past, an improvement for the players, although I did get a free coffee when I went out for dinner last week.

Referees and cultural shifts - although I am not directly involved I have been assured you will notice the difference and the coments made by everyone have been noted by the MS.

The biggest thing to remember is that a venue is just a venue - it is the event itself that counts. The organisation, the staff and the players all make the event. Ball is what makes us tick - well it does me, does it you?

1. Lack of accomidation is a problem i just tried looking fro a hotel as a couple of weeks ago southend and basildon south both had rooms not anymore, romford or even dartford little bit of a pain.
www.theoaklandhotel.co.uk

Booked my room there a couple days ago, they still had rooms available and it wasn't so expensive as in Basildon.

as an additional incentive - I can offer 3 seats in a car going everyday from the hotel to the site.

Something needs to be done about the promotion of paintball in the UK. People constantly say to me when I mention that I play paintball "So, do you run around in the woods then like Rambo". Unfortunately the majority of the UK's perception of this sport is woods ball. What someone needs to do is get permission from their lcoa shopping centre and put up a huge inflatable bunker (like the X in X-Ball), so people go "What's that?!". Also if you placed knowledgeable paintballers on the stand to help dis-spell the myths about tournament paintball then more people would be inclined to play Sup'Air.

I know it's been said a million times before on this forum, but the big UK paintball events aren't marketed well. Campaign Cup has been mentioned on a few Essex based radio stations and there will be some banners around the local area promoting the event, along with a few other things. This is a step in the RIGHT direction. Think back to Campaign last year. Was there any promotion? I personally didn't notice a lot of it. (Perhaps someone else may be able to put me on the right tracks with that). The Disneyland Paris events on the other hand are well marketed. Posters, banners, etc. I know it all boils down to money but I personally would rather spend a little extra money to try and appeal to wider audience. It saddens me to say that UK 'ball is declining, but we need to try and think outside of the box, so to speak.

That's my view on why paintball is seen as it is in the UK. I'm not saying I'm right or wrong, it's just an opinion. Flame me all you like.

(Oh and Ion, I'm surprised you never BASIC stickered that banner LOL)

People are wrong.

What makes a good venue is:

- Urban setting or inconnecition with a non-paintball event
- Putting trade up front so the non-paintballing crowd gets a chance to see all the cool stuff - and the vendors get their moneys worth
- Loads of local advertising
- Ample seating for the crowd
- Pamflets and a good MC to guide the non-paintballing crowd

For us players, a large empty national stadium is a waste of time - and WAY worse than a temporary one filled with people :)
