Hahahahaha

Seriously Pete - you always crack me up when things get a little heated in these debates :D

It's so typical you, in terms of forum debates, to attack someone on a personal level, whenever you disagree.

And the comment about arrogance :D - Jeeeez man - RICH is the word that comes to mind :p

But whatever, if my input is not wanted, due to the tone of it, I am more than happy to keep it to myself.... no skin off my back :)

So enjoy the thread and good luck to all at Campaign.

Which is what a committed player spends playing events - every month - AT LEAST :)

Nick
Well - to be honest with you, it has been like that for ages :)

It is a life choice really - if you want to live the paintball lifestyle, you sacrifice everything else - if it is just an enjoyable occasional pasttime, that is cool too.

I totally agree with Robbo about your arrogant tone.. in a UK-oriented thread like this you should know better than to post stuff like that. .. and you're from a country that has.. uhhrm.. about 43 sup air players in total? (or something like that?!? :)) Pllllllease......

oh and you do not have to pay £400-£500 each month to "live the paintball lifestyle". That is BS. Well maybe not, if you live in Denmark.

On topic: More UK teams to Campaign Cup please!

I'm willing to bet that the Dynasty kids are in better paintball-shape than most of the people that read this. I bet that they are panting a lot less than you and I after a game.
I'm not going to disagree with you on that.....I reckon most of the Dynasty teams parents are in better shape than me ;)

shall we get back to the point.

Who the fk can be arsed to explain the levels of apathy in UK Ball. And more importantly, does it matter.
If the issue now up for discussion is the general lack of desire to play at the higher levels of the game rather than just the low number of UK teams contesting the CC this year, then:

Reasons

1. Commitment required in both time and money for training and attendance of pan-euro events.

2. Relatively small player-base compared to USA. If you assume that a given percentage of tournament players will have the desire to get to the top, say 5%, then in the states that's a lot of people......in the UK it's a pub quiz team. ;)

3. Law of diminishing enjoyment. In my experience the more serious you get about winning, the less fun things become.

Is it a problem?

YES: if you're one of the people who want to see UK paintball competing with the best from around the world.

NO: if you're just interested in playing for your own enjoyment and don't have any aspirations to develop the domestic sport.

The UK has a lot of teams that train regularly AND commit to playing a full Series. UK Masters, NSPL, and the PA have good numbers at all their events, month in, month out. The PA is a locked league so it's slightly different but it is an Xball league which requires training and commitment and all of those teams participate for the entire year.

The fact is, most of those teams don't play the Millennium Series.
Now. A lot of those teams will say to themselves that if they are not going to play the whole series and travel around Europe then what is the point of just playing one event? Why not save their cash and put it towards the League that they are committed to?

Sounds pretty sensible to me.

As for the poor showing at this years Campaign Cup........
In my opinion the only reason that Campaign is not full to bursting with UK teams OR European teams is that the event has been cr@p for the last few years!!!

If players first experience of the Series was Campaign, then I can understand why it would put them off that one event AND playing the series in the future. It has a history of being bodged together, disorganised and expensive as well as all the security issues encountered at CP. Now a lot of this has got to do with the fact that it is very difficult and very expensive to get things done in the UK so the event has never lived up to the hype.

If we look it from a distance and take into account all the teams that are committed to playing the whole series, then it would make sense to hold the event in another country where those players will get the tournament they want. It would not be any more expensive for those teams to have one more event in mainland Europe as overall costs are considerably cheaper.

Well, the dealine has past, so unless the team list is awaiting a final update or the Millennium have decided to extend the entry deadline, we are looking at a total of 142, against 182 at Max Masters. Thats a 22% reduction in team numbers.

Some of the possible reasons for this have been touched upon in this thread and are probably worth discussing in further detail. But the ultimate question has to be what are the reprecussions? Personally, I would dispair at seeing the UK loose its only Millennium fixture.

Syd, It would be sad to see it go in a way. That said, who really would miss it? Makes no difference to me, if i want to play a Millenium I HAVE to fly to it. so france, germany, england makes no difference to me.However out of all those tourney ballers who live and play in England, what percentage actually go to Campaign? You run the NSPL tourney and i bet you see more UK tourney ballers at one leg than you do at what is supposed to be the biggest tourney of the year in the UK??

As I said before, it isn't terribly difficult to search through and find the response to previous years Millenium efforts.

Oh and Nick, I reckon you have said enough mate. Your lack of respect for who you speak with will neither endear you to anyone, or convince anyone of your supposed superior knowledge. I would like to know how you are qualified to speak of the UK's supposed apathetic approach to paintball anyway?

As a wiser man than I said once, be nice to who you meet on the way up, you might just meet them on the way back down again.
