i imported a spyder many moons ago ( 1997 i think ) ( also i stopped play soon after and re started last year )

cost me a small forutune in vat and duty, and i also had to send a letter to customs states the max volicity of the marker before they would release it.

i'll never buy one from aboard again. small parts yes but never a big item

You still have to pay VAT and Import duties on gifts, the only deciding factor is the amount the parcel is worth. The limit is something like £36, any more than that and you have to pay up.

Sometimes you get lucky and your package slips through without being checked though.

As i Andy has stated its pot luck which parcels they deem to charge import duties on.I've had markers from the states, never had a problem stating what velocity it was
Just had a shipment from Kila which cost me £31 in import duties which wasn't to bad

As someone else has stated,if its under a certain cost and marked up appropriately ;) you may get away with it.

Some people don't want the hassle of shopping abroad,i.e if it goes wrong etc it's a risk but the companies i've dealt with have sent me replacement gear without asking for the broken gear back!
Also the exchange is pretty good
