I heard that Marcus Neilson runs his intelli fed halo off 3 9V batteries. I've not seen pics or details though.

You might find some info if you search the Nation or Arsenal forum.

its to do with the voletage output. Apparently rechargeables have a lower voltage and so should be avoided, the Mah i just how long they will run at that voltage, so obviously get the biggest you can. it's possible to run off two 9Vs so search for 9V halo mods on ebay / PBN / something

I've read a bit about it and apparently rechargeables nimh's run at a consistent 8.4 whereas a disposable will only run at 9 volts for a relatively short period of time and diminish throughout.
Are two 9's lighter than 6 aa's?

I think it's more about the current output - rechargeables in general don't supply as much current as standard batteries.
