Advice To Bring on Junior Player

ok as you know My son Kristopher ( BoB ) is possibly one of the Youngest paintball players in the UK, he has been training for 11/2 Years knows the Nspl rules and at the age of 11 played his 1st ever tournament.

He will be 12 years old on the 30th December 2006

I would like to know who is who in paintball

The Best Way forward with him

Timing as he is So young and don’t want to burn him out

Mistakes that have Been made



I’m 40 years old, fat and a ass on the forums but on field I hope I’m respected, we both love the game.
I’m going to invest a ton of £££ into him but need Help.

I hear people bitching about paintball all the time, well this is something GOOD.

More power to you mate. As most know - I've been dragging my son (now 10) to p'ball events since he was capable of going.

I'm not too sure what I can offer you as advice - other than to make sure he sticks at it.

Hopefully, he will be playing along side my young-gun in a British team - kicking ass in the USA (and beyond ).

BTW - I didn't realise you could play in an event under 12-years-old.

I started properly playing in Winter 2005, so at the age of 13.

Make sure he sticks at it...


I started right in the deep end, with my first 4 events in div 1. Try to put your son in the most challenging situations when playin... Trust me, it works!

Try to create a training/playing routine with him. For eg: Train once every other week, play a tournie once every other week. And make sure he properly trains. By this, I mean practice on his weekness'.

Just sort of stuff like that should do some good. Hope this helps and good luck to your son.

i watched him play at the last KoTH tourny and he had one hell of lot of potentail. Keep him at it, he will go far and he will definetaly go along way with you there backing him with money and your knowlegde. (coming to think about it can i move in?) Keep him in the KoTH tounrys with '1' team if that teams starts to win and is improving his level of play give him a go in the nspl 4div im sure he could cope there now but he will not have that much game time, for certain reasons! Just make sure he is trained by people that know what they are doing. Its one thing training its another training well. I know this is a bit different for me but i played one KoTH tourny and then played for riptide! and ive been playing for a year and a few days and played sup'air about 8times and yes i struggle but im not having kittens when im out there. im 15 aswell. He just has to keep to the basics.

from this young age make sure he works his weaker hand a lot more, sure you read pgi. Make sure he plays tight. Uses his voice a lot (when it breaks). and moves around the field. For a 12 year old hes a bit small so making him a front/mid player would be best! i think


he has a lot of potentail make sure he plays a lot, 1 or 2 times a month at the least

In all fairness its all in his shoes, if you can financially back him,get him to the events and training. Its all upto him. I have no doubt that he loves the game and wants to play everyday, but its down to him at the end of the day. People like Ollie Lang didnt get where they got to now because they were pushed, they do it because they love the sport and want to get better and better. The more he trains and the more tournaments he gets out and plays, he will get picked up. Just takes time, as your fully aware

This is in no way a rant, but in there somewhere is mearly my advise that you let him know he can be what ever he makes himself

Just make sure you maintain the "fun" element...it's a balance, especially with kids....they need to be enjoying it..sure, there will be stressful times, serious times and hard work, but as long as he is enjoying it and still thinks it's fun....he will thrive on thr attention.

I would suggest "hiring" someone who knows what he or she is talking about, as well....

Well no disrespect to the players down in the south west but you should get him up to Dartford as much as possible and train with Dave, myself and Team NK and watch the likes of Nexus, shockwave and Tigers all of which train at Dartford!!!

Playing from a young age i have always loved playing, hands down it's the greatest thing on the planet, i want to play everysecond of everyday *even now*. but one thing to be wary of is education, i found that paintball was on my mind so much that i was finding hard to even concentrate in school!
I'm still only young, and am taking some big exams this spring, im so worried that 'ball is gonna distract me (p-ball is a drug, agreed?)

I also found, even till this day that mixing with players much older/wiser than you was invaluble to my learning experience, i look upto everyone i meet within paintball and try to learn as much as possible from them in the time i have. it made me mature in my approach to the sport. while still having bucket loads of fun.

That probably made no sense..

But, with the backing he has from you aswell as members from the community im sure he will go far within the sport, i wish him and yourself all the best!
(i've got the feeling he's going to shred me if we ever meet on a field )
