Flint, I don't understand that. No offense, but it sounds like just another excuse. "Oh well, Robbo says UK ball is ****, so we may as well not bother."
To me personally it is more like "Robbo says UK ball is ****, let's go ask what the problem is."
I dont have that attitude, dont think I made it clear enough, I want to be the best I can be. Im just pointing out its an all negative attitude towards UK paintballers. Im not in a position to give an opinion on this, but all those that are, seem to agree, it sucks.

Whats the problem? Well theres a few, in my opinion the main fault we have is almost all our paintball sites make no connection at all between them and tournament paintball, to them, its them and thats it. They offer no help or support.

Flint,

I actually admire your drive, this is what we are missing, and maybe, you and your new team will be a breath of fresh air and a head turning team, with that I wish you all the best.

As for site paintball sites and tournaments, old news mate, there are very few sites that will endorse tournament paintball, mostly down to money and generating customers/£££....oh yeah and cash.

To be honest if your serious about being the best then track down the site that will support you, D7's, NQ for example, put the effort it and reap the rewards, simple really.

But don't be disheartened by negative comments mate, they are coming from people who have been on the scene for a long time and seen very little change despite all the talk.

The only people that can make your team great is you and your team, I agree 100% with Nick, people either have the passion and drive or they don't, your job is to get a team who all have the same goals as you, trust me, that's not easy.

Damn some serious threadjackin going on here ;)

Okay, why do I think UK ball is not at the top of it's game.

1. Players bitch and moan because there is not a training facility in their own back garden.
2. Players bitch and moan because they have to take a 2 hour average car trip to a tournament.
3. Players bitch and moan hold on....said that ;)
4. How many serious players are there in the UK, who really want to make something of themselves? I was the ONLY non English (apart from that Frog Digga x) to attend the UK (England) X ball trials a number of years back, now, how many people had enough drive to actually go to these trials...oh...let me think...50 maybe less from the North/Midlands that's pathetic!!!!!! It was a chance to experience something new, to make it into the National Team so to speak and could people be arsed....I think not.
5. From that NeXus was born, NeXus held trials for the Nexus Eclipse feeder team, how many attended....under 40, so while we are all bitchin and moaning at the state of UK paintball have a look at yourselves, Digger and Dunny are now on NeXus, living it up, paintball names we all know, we see on DVD's, playing in the big leagues, being admired by other players....does no one else want this?????
6. Markie C has ran a Dynasty and XSV clinic....how many DEDICATED players attended who were NOT all mouth?

So, my take is simple, UK Paintball is in it's current state because players are lazy and expect everything for nothing, there are a few exceptions to the rule but on the grand scale of things this is a very small drop in a very big ocean.

You want to make UK Teams better, train, attend clinics and work hard for what you want, don't just think playing well in one event makes you a superstar.

I am more than willing to put in the time and money to get better and make it to the top, and as soon as i pass my driving test and get a half decent job i will be training as often as possible and attending as many clinics as possible. After 6th form i will be taking a gap year in the US and training there as much as possible in between work, then i will keep going and hope it all pays off. So you see there are people willing to put in the effort, probably more than you think (Flint for example, seems to have the same attitude as me), but most of these people seem to be younger and i know that money is a massive limiting factor for many, including myself.

This is what I mean, there is so much negative attitude towards UK paintball, and to a new team, its a little disheartning. Why should I get my team training once a week and trying to be the best we can be if we're just going to enter the crap UK paintballer catergory anyway? Maybe Im over reacting as Im not sure if this is aimed at teams at my level, but we're a new(ish) team and seeing all this, its disheartning.

On the side of whether it is a sport or not, I see it as a sport, regardless of whether it is officially or not. I think seeing tournament paintball as a sport and not a hobby is important, not just in terms of fitness but in the attitude needed to progress.

Flint, your post is a little bewildering, if you get your team training once a week with the resolve to improve then that is exactly the sort of thing I am advocating we should be doing.

Why on earth you would then suggest you'd be categorized with the 'crap' is beyond me; I would quite rightly describe your team as a 'ray of hope'.

I think you are getting a little carried away here mate and believing I've got a downer on UK ball as a whole, you couldn't be further from the truth if that is what you think.
I do however have a downer on people who either don't give a damn or can't be bothered and if you ever decide to train once a week to embark on an improvement curve then you will immediately preclude any criticism or negative categorization from myself.

'Good luck to you and your team' is what I say.
