Custard, whilst I agree with a lot of what you say, I will contend your suggestion that site owners work with small margins.
That's just silly !!!!
A well run, well marketed site makes site owners very rich indeed.

One slightly well known site owner always used to plead poverty whilst he rammed thousands per week in his grubby little back pocket.
He was as transparent as he was greedy.

Of course some site owners don't do so well but this is down to poor management and promotional skills rather than small working margins.

The margins are there to make significant profits if sites are run professionally, just look at the bread and butter sale of paintballs themselves :- Site owners can buy them at .75 p per ball and even less and then go on to sell them at 6 or 7p.
Now I ain't no financial expert but I know my maths and with margins like those, you can make money, and trust me, I know a lot of site owners who do just that.

As for the generalization concerning tourney players?
Hmmm, you ain't too far off the mark with that one and as for Mikey and his mates never bemoaning judging, pricing or whatever, hmmm, I doubt that.
It's so much if tourney players indulge but how much ... a bit like cheating really.

Well can assure you robbo im the last one to complain about prices and unless theres a major f up then i have no problems with refs.

Dont really get what you mean by that?

Moaning is endemic as cheating and whilst some tourney players deny outright they don't indulge, the reality is soemwhat different.
It's all about degrees.

Think you should look closer to hom, the big issue is uk players, too lazy to make this work...Look at fireball
The big issue is that many paintballers seem to be as smart at the way they spend their money as those that sell the big issue...
When I see people that have an outfit that costs more than their gun, or players that have to have a new gun every six months, the latest outfit every year, I just shake my head. And when they then claim that training is too expensive, I just want to kick them in the teeth.

Maybe I did not put my point to well or maybe I was a bit general, I was not really referring to the big name woodland sites but to an operation such as the one which was referred to at the start of this thread. The rent and rates on commercial property are pretty much licensed piracy.
The beauty of woodland or Greenfield is that in comparison they are a very small layout in compared to an indoor operation. The rent and rates still have to be paid for both but an indoor arena is by far more a huge investment and gamble. I think almost every indoor centre has folded due to the crippling drain of money to the coughers of the government and the incredible high per square foot rent. I think I have gone round the houses to say that we as regular tournament or rec ball players want the fantastic facilities but will never be prepared to pay for them.
The so called “punter” may well pay £50 or so for a couple of hundred paintballs and half a day’s entertainment and we can cry robbery, but the bottom line is it’s a commercial business and we are not prepared to pay one penny more but the once or twice a year man will.

if you have reballs then surely you have to lower the velocity of your gun so then laning would not be as realistic etc?
The mass of the reball ensures that even though it leaves the barrel at lower fps the firing characteristic is roughly the same.
