So I'm looking to upgrade and loads of people are telling me to go either dm or geo I was just wondering the differences and the pros and cons. Any advice would be great thanks a lot.

Depends on age and price. If you can get a geo 3 and above get the geo. If your budget is sub 300 get a newer dm. 2009-2014 should fall into that price range.

The geo 3 was the first planet spool to really spank dye. Reliable and smooth but strong second hand values.

Dm shoot like butter but are relatively air hungry, temperamental, and honestly you need to know what your doing to keep it shooting all season. They don't hold they're value so cheap to buy but also harder to shift on.

Just realised it sounds like I'm dumping on the dm but honestly they both shoot awesome. Have owned both. I prefer the dm but I like to tinker.

I have owned several Geo's and DM's, and I prefer the Geo. Maintenance is very easy, and the Geo holds it's value.

I like fiddling as well but I don't have a lot of knowledge yet. I've seen the dm taken apart but I'd probably have to watch a few YouTube videos first.
I'll be looking at spending about 200-250 on a new marker. I have the gog enmey at the moment and used a mates dm12, fell in love instantly. He said you can't go wrong with dm or planet.
So you'd suggest moving up to a later dm get to know the guns and then move up to the higher end markers?
Thanks for the advice

Nice thing with planet is if you just chuck it back into your kit bag and just bring it out next time you know it will shoot as well and before where if you try that with dye - good luck. I have both and shoot PE by choice.

I find the above statements about dye guns really puzzling. I've used a nyx matrix a dm4,8,14 as well as a proto pm6 and 7. The dm8 is the gun used in my avatar and was used an insane amount for a season.

All without fail have been 100% reliable, end of day pull bolt quick wipe and re lube. Job done.

For balance I have also shot an eblade, ego 7 and an etek4 and again whilst not spools all were very reliable.

Basically buy what feels comfortable in the hand, this tosh about dms being unreliable or gas hungry is an ill founded rumour which keeps dms below their fair market value.

Tinkering ain’t easy
I tend to find the often misplaced truth about the DMs and reliability to be perpetuated by newer players who haven't actually ran a DM for any length of time, or by those who have used cheap O rings to fix a barrel leak issue.

I've been shooting all sorts of guns and have never found any DM any harder to maintain than a Geo or any less reliable. (Context of both guns owned: DM 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,12/ Geo 1,1+,2.0,2.1,3.0,3.1) ninja edit-ive also used the DM14 for a bit and I've had a good play with an M2 as well and to be honest it's hard to surpass the M2 in terms of feel (much like a rare working NT10)

With all markers if you want it to run at optimum efficiency you should look after it, all that both require is a quick lube of the bolt and you are done.

As for pros and cons of each, to be honest they are very very similar, I find the Geo louder and not as smooth but the build quality feels higher, the DM feels smoother to shoot and quieter but the trigger feels cheaper than the Geo counterpart. Both guns will serve as excellent guns to shoot people in the face.

My advice would be buy a shocker ;)

DMs can be very reliable - my parner has an DM8 that has been sweet ever since we owned it. They can react very badly to neglect or over-lubing though. If I had a budget of sub £250, I'v go DM all the way as they have next to no secondhand value and can be had cheap as you like. You'd have no bother getting a DM12 for that money, maybe even a 14 for a smidge more.

I have used Dye/Proto since my tippy 98. I have never had a problem with them. Great guns. I'm selling my DM7 because it's been replaced by my DAM.

I have been really tempted to get the new M2, but since the price hike, I've been pushed into getting and lv1.1, and to be honest, I'm loving it :)

I could never get on with the egos before, not enough trigger room for me, but the lv1.1 is awesome, and so easy to maintain. I don't think I could go back to dye after this.
