I'm going this Saturday to collect a gun. Not sure whether to stick with the semi or go with an O/U but either way, I'm coming home with a goddamn shotgun...... I'm told he has a Beretta Silver pigeon in stock. I have to admit, I'm tempted.

We're limited to one in the chamber and a two shot mag. For getting started and for clays, I'd rather have an o/under I think.
I can always add the semi later when I need something to hunt with but for now I'd be better learning to shoot first!!

Just googled it and found it in the states for $329!!!!! Man that's cheap, if I lived out there i'd need a gun room and not just a cabinet!!
yeah, the standard 870 has a 3 round tube-mag, so that wouldn't work for you. Shame.
I guess you will need a SXS or a UO. There are some beauties out there. What's the shortest barrel you can have? Are you allowed to shoot slugs?

No slugs sadly, I think the shortest legal barrel is 26 inches on a shotgun.
Can have a 2 + 1 semi which I'll probably get next year once Christmas is out of the way.

If you fancy a go at clays,get an over under with adjustable chokes if possible.
Silver pigeon is a nice gun, I bought a 692 30" a few weeks ago.
Try a few before you buy at decent shop to get an idea what fits you, but-stock pads come in different thicknesses also have a think about length of barrels I'd go 30 or 32" for clays.

can you shoot black powder over there? if you can, there's a new Remington 700 that's a 300yard muzzle-loader. I've been looking at them for a while. Not the best zombie weapon, but a fun toy nonetheless
Second hand Beretta O/U 30' at around £1000 from a reliable source , everyone's starter gun and quite possibly the only one you'll ever need if your that way inclined ...as mentioned try before you buy and I would say adjustable stock every time to allow you to fit it to you ... Leave the semi-auto toys till later...
