No I think that Raza may not be there in tent city anymore, Chris from Raza had that big statement.

Todd's raza, but he's a commentator and coach (probably will get picked up) as well. So he may still be on the web cast (if there is one) in that capacity and not in the raza retail capacity.

Playing devils advocate here for a second...

What all these industry people are failing to mention is what they already pay the PSP to be a sponsor each year.. For Bob it might not be much to just have a tech on site, but I cant see that the PSP would have done that for free (unless he is just sending a guy with a toolbox to sit in the parking lot and do it unofficially, which is hardly a professional approach..)

For DLX (last time I checked) they already have a booth go to each event, so its more a case of how much MORE is it under the new scheme (of which I have no information whatsoever) they could very well be paying $40k a year anyway. Granted the extra $25k is still a lot, but if it helps protect and potentially increase their market (i.e the number of teams they could pick up if someone like BL doesnt buy in) then they need to make a business decision about whether it is worth it. If enough companies vocally defect then they can generate a detrimental effect on the PSP but that wouldn't come without consequence their own business too...

These companies all make valid arguments for what else they could better spend the money on and of course we know they would spend it wisely if they had that money spare to re-invest - who wouldn't? But in the PSPs defence they have created a product which brings these 150+ teams together to play these 5 events each year and have created the platform for those companies to do business on... (Insert a million posts about how if the PSP wasn't doing it someone else would and they wouldn't be charging for it blah blah blah) so is it not reasonable at least to argue that the PSP is asking those companies that profit from their efforts to help support that platform in the first place and give themselves some additional protection? The issue would only really be has the PSP asked too much (again, I dont know)

I also dont know exactly what items of kit it relates to or how far down the divisions it will go, but as the PSP have no locked divisions it is not as easy to judge the line at which to apply it as it was for the Millennium - who have been running this system for I believe 7 years now (on guns, goggles & loaders only I THINK, in just CPL, SPL1&2) with no industry outcry of how hard they are getting any butt-hurt by them. (I know that BL is not a Millennium sponsor so has not been through this, but he has no significant presence or teams in Europe) DLX pay this fee, albeit with the help of some distributors so it spreads the cost, but I dont see Darryl Trent asking for a loan to pay that on his social media outlets.

The PSP have to strike a delicate balance of running a profitable business (and I have heard some of the figures involved in running events from Millennium, PSP and other leagues and they are not small numbers at all) and also being a de-facto governing body / paintball public service / regulator, broadcaster & promoter of competitive paintball. They might not always get it right, but they are making informed decisions on the landscape that they see before them with all the info they have available. Its very easy to scream and shout about being had-up for $65k but there will be much more going on than that.

I'm sure the PSP will break silence with a reasoned and justified argument for this and a clarification on what exactly this applies to when they are ready.

Ok, played devils advocate for a minute or two, but hopefully that throws a new perspective in the mix...

Yea he definitely help to found the company, but I think he himself may still go to commentate in the capacity of an ex player and not as the Raza dude. Now if someone asks him on the webcast why Raza didn't show up...that'll be an interesting answer :)

Nice view Ash. It seems that the 65,000 USD number is called out twice. I'd expect that number is significant enough over what they currently pay, that Raza, BLAST, DLX are balking at the number.

The shame is that PSP hired a new director of Marketing. Their facebook feed is exploding with anger on every post they make, and still silence. They need to come out with a rational response, and quickly.

I didn't know about the goggles and loaders for Mills. I *think* you're right and that it only applies to the Locked divisions. Guessing because for the most part they're the ones you see on the webcast, and are in front of the grand stands. Helps to market the sponsors gear. I understand that, it's a sound business decision. I think they've found that line to balance on between generating revenue and catering to the players wishes. Bravo to the Mills guys.
