Hopefully he's not been scared off, not having been on since he posted, but:

Put up a quick introduction - who are you, where are you, what paintball experience do you have, do you have an existing preference on types of paintball, have you any gear already?

If the answer is no regarding having your own gear then keep it like that for a short while.
Once you know what style of paintball you are into, how often you will play, what your transport options are like etc you can have the information ready to make informed decisions and purchases

Browse the forums, particularly the new player areas, but the rest of the forum as well
Check out my 'what paintball costs' thread

Then you can think of shopping
Goggles are the best start - choose based on comfort so either find a paintball shop (usually on industrial estates, and there are a few accross the regions)
Goggles are good for any style of play but you may want to avoid bright colours if you will be playing in the woods mainly

Don't get caught up in woodsball or speedball guns.
Any gun will work in the woods or for scenario
Any gun will also work in speedball - but you will find you want something light, comfortable and ergonomic. If you are inclined to look into speedball then don't invest too much without looking around teams. Should you join an existing speedball team they may have sponsorships and require exclusive company equipment
