This is just a general enquiry as to how to go about getting into paintball without having a team. All my friends when asked have little or no interest in going paintballing yet i really want to do it as an ongoing hobby. I live local to the ucz in newton abbot and i was kinda wondering what the etiquette was for approaching clubs, can an individual just walk in off the street and say "i wanna play"? or do i have to have some kind of ready made group? I have a couple of guys at work who probably be interested but the logistics of them juggling paintball with homelife may be problematic. Also i,m in my 30's so i was wondering wether there is a large player base in my age group or would i be the old man standing around with people half my age. any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Go to nearest walkon (or whatever is happening) with kit, start by getting chatty with the guy running it and ask about the teams attending, who is who etc etc, and go from there. Just be polite, help out, be eager .... you know.

Yes pretty much. Could always start a thread on here a couple of weeks prior to an event and ask who is going, anyone need a player, can I tag along with anyone? That sort of thing.

Yes and yes but it doesnt matter. This game is about outsmarting the opponent foremost, fitness and youth helps, but is not necessary :) Im 34, when I started, it seemed like I was the only 20 yr old, but now when I play its mostly 17-24yr olds! Or it seems that way :) But thats cool, I try to combat youth and speed with common sense and trickery :D

You'll be fine mate

Thanks for the replys, i've been reading through the forums and the community seems to be very friendly so i'm nowhere as near as apprehensive about going to an event and just asking now, for some reason i had an image in my head of it being quite a macho all ex military type affair but clearly that is an image born out of ignorance (no offence meant to the community). i have played previously when i was younger a few times but that was with the army cadets so i guess thats where i have got the association from, but thanks for the help, my life is starting to get a bit boring but now i've found something i can get my teeth into (plus some of the masks look cool and it's an excuse to run around the woods in camo gear, that in its self is a pro that far outways any cons)

im 32 and have been playing since 2001, still enjoy it and going out and holding my own against people half my age......where paintball is concerned, age is not an issue and everyone treats each other as a though they are family (and you know how family is:D)
