yes he can play at 14 theres even a semi pro div 4 player who is 14 in america :D

and those are tipmanns, just a warning they are realistic and can be seen as real so he cant really go outside with it
also it is quite heavy compared to speedsball markers
and he wont be able to play speedsball (well he can but itll be very very hard) with it

First thing to look at is a mask as this needs to be comfortable cos he'll be wearing it for most of the day

When you're ok to drive mate, take your son up to Planet Eclipse in Manchester and have a chat with the guys there as well. Best paintball company in the world, and that's no exaggeration

Just a thought what age do youngster's have to be to start this hobby, He's 14 & just said he would like a marker that look's like an army rifle......Think he's going out of my price range now beginning to think why did i offer to treat him ?????
Hi mate,

he would be after a Tippmann or BT marker then. They start quite cheap and you can add accessories to them to get the look he's after. (can be a bit of a money pit but just think of all the chores you can get him to do :D).

This is the BT range:

http://www.empirepaintball.com/battle-tested-woodsball/bt-paintball-markers/

The BT combat is £109 brand new but you should be able to pick one up fairly cheaply second hand. Then spend the rest on a decent set of goggles, he can always borrow a hopper and a bottle from the site he's playing at, phone ahead to check first.

UKScenario.com is a good place for second hand BT's or Tippmann, if you see anything you like feel free to PM me over there and i'll try to help you out.

However the best bet is to get him down to a walk on as soon as you can and have a look at the various markers available. He may prefer an electronic marker after he's seen them in action. The don't look like real guns (most of them, BT TM7 and BT TM15 being the main exceptions to this rule) but are generally superior to mechanical markers. Most walk on sites will allow a rental player to play.

Don't be tempted to let him play anywhere other than a paintball site though, otherwise he may end up looking the wrong way down a real gun with a policeman at the other end.

I got into the sport when I was 35, so when you're better give it a go.

have fun.

Ronnie, you will find this site an invaluable asset to any paintballer no matter what level they are at.
I am often surprised by the response some posts generate especially when newbie posters ask for help of some kind.
There are an awful lot of very cool people people within our ranks and is one of the reasons so many people enjoy our sport.
The most important consideration in paintball is to just enjoy yourself and I'm sure your son will do just that ... it's just that his enjoyment may well cause a significant reduction in the size of your wallet ..... :)
